If any West Aussies are feeling deprived in the vintage caravan photos department, your State Library has a collection worth looking at when you have some spare time. Go to the link below, and click on the 14th, 15, 18, 19 & 20th Subjects on the list. Thumbnail photos can be clicked on to show a larger photo. In the 18th Subject, 18 different photo collections will be revealed, many of which are pre-1970. The one listed as number 10 will inspire any early Holden fans... innopac.slwa.wa.gov.au/search/dCaravans/dcaravans/13%2C21%2C58%2CB/browseEnjoy! cheers, Al.

well done Al ........no, Mark didn't know about the "on-line" library collection. I've been to Battye the library many times to search stuff, old newspapers etc. The pics have certainly answered some of my questions about Perth's own manufactured "Modern" caravans ......... Geez they made some big vans using only 1 axle ..... Great stuff .....thanx for sharing the link Mark

Sheet , Geoff&Jude thats one hell of a long/heavy van to be carried on one axle Looks like about 26 foot. Bet the car in the photo felt the weight. Mark, there's some handy photographs there especially seeing dated photographs. It makes it easy for others to date caravans if they find a van in a similar style in the photos to vans they have at home. Thanks for throwing 'em up here. Terry.

Here's another one that Cobber would enjoy...looks earlier than the 1950's, when real vintage vans were around... nla.gov.au/nla.pic-an23504488Ahh, they don't make 'em like that anymore, eh Cobber? Al.

Just a bit of trivia, the jetty with the building on the end of it in the background is still there at Lake St Clair, you could actually recreate that photo perfectly today as nothing has changed since that photo was taken, but there is talk of an eco resort being built there soon.

Did notice that post thanks Al, but I don’t want to give Reddo more ammunition OK... so maybe I will ..... have a look at “Driftwood” & the FJ @ www.seafolly.com.au/?group=2Back to what this thread is about.... V V photos. Maybe some of the new kids on the block haven’t heard of www.pictureaustralia.org/ ( It has been mentioned a few times on the forum over the last couple of years) just type in caravan, or caravans, or anything else that takes your fancy and it searches all over Australia for you. Cobber.

Cobber, Thanks for posting the link to www.pictureaustralia.org. What a treasure trove. I had seen some of the photos posted on the forum at various times, but spent a very happy hour checking back through the photos and saw some that were new to me. I was interested in the photo of the early 50's Chesney, to mention one, given the discussion about Chesney vans on the forum over the last month or so. Some fantastic pictures of caravans from all eras, including some magnificient photos from the 20's and 30's. Makes those of us with 40's, 50's and 60's vans realise we are just the new kids on the block!! On the other hand, anyone who happened to have a '36 van could perhaps claim to be part of the V V aristocracy ;D Please advise whether in future we should refer to you as 'your eminence'... Don Ricardo
