Hi, just wondering if anyone knows where I could buy a 22mm sink plug from. All I can find at the Caravan and Boat shops are the 25mm variety.
Cheers

G'day sambo, Strange to say it might not be easy to find such a little beast, try phoning your nearest Marine supplies place and let us know how you go Cobber. whoops sorry, you've already tried the boat shops, c'mon Al ... ( I reckon he'll know where to get 'em )

Thanks Rattles, I saw the ones from the UK, however I'm leaving on a big trip on the 21st June and wasn't sure if it would arrive in time. I left this item on the checklist until the last moment, thinking it would be a simple trip to the Caravan accessories shop to pick - alas not to be . Might have to go the UK way though and hope it arrives in time. Cobber, I've lost count of the number of Marine shops I've called. I've even tried cutting a 25mm one down, but without much success. Not sure if the 22mm was a standard size in the 60's vans or I've just got an unusual sink? Cheers Sambo

Hi Sambo I suggest you try and find a rubber stopper for an Erlenmeyer flask or test tube - there are plenty of sizes, and they are easy to get. I suggest you might need a #3 size, but check the chart here (the size you want should be about the middle of the top and bottom dimensions) - www.sciencecompany.com/Black-Rubber-Stoppers-Size-Chart-W184C2691.aspxYou can buy such stoppers in Australia at science shops, but also at Clarks Rubber: www.clarkrubber.com.au/rubber-stopper.htmlI'd probably choose the 36mm x 25mm top wide x 20mm bottom wide - you could go smaller if you put a hook or something in it, otherwise you'll never drain the water! Will get you through in a pinch - good luck on the trip, Seeshell

Hey Seeshell, thanks so much for the reply. That's thinking outside the square for sure, but will work perfectly I think. Clark Rubber is around the corner too . Thanks again Sambo

G'day sambo, Good thinking seeshell but the size isn't all that unusual sambo. I just checked the holes in my Driftwood and the Newcastle vans. The hole in Driftwood looks about 22mm but the rubber plug in it is marked 31mm and is tapered, it fits. The hole in the Newcastle van is 22mm and it's plug is metal and is a neat fit. Have a look at the range of plugs at ........ Bunnings one of them should do the job especially this 25mm one if they have it in stock ? Cobber.

Like you, cobber, my "Maitland" van ( ) has a 22mm ( 7/ 8") plug. Seems they are a standard size in the UK, so maybe that's the origin of our sinks?? Dimensions of my plug are as follows: Bunnings only go down to the 25mm dia size. Following seeshell's idea, there's another listing in Hindmarsh, SA known as Fitch the Rubber Man who lists chemical stoppers. Down the list a bit are the 22mm sizes. cheers, Al.

I meant to add in my post above that somebody on the Exploroz forum asked the same question in 2011, and he tried the 25mm plug but it wouldn't fit. Also, this website in the UK ( asap-supplies ) lists the plug, and also the "chain stays" down the bottom of the page (just in case you want to lash out for the whole kit and caboodle, sambo ). They ship to anywhere in the world, so they say. cheers, Al.

Seeing as cost isn't really an issue here, I might order the UK one and hope it arrives, but get a stopper as well which will do tthe trick for the holiday if need be. Thanks for the links Al, the chain is probably an excellent idea considering the headache this has already caused me . So much time and effort for such a small item . Sambo

Interesting topic. I have the reverse problem with the 1947 homebuilt. I simply cannot get a plug big enough for its sink. Have bought ones that they say are 70mm , but thats the top of the plug, the rubber below is only 50mm & leaves a huge gap.
