VIKING CARAVANSManufacturer: Unknown 113-115 Angas Street, Adelaide, South Australia
The following advertisement for Viking Caravans appeared in in the 1958 Adelaide Pink Pages directory: (Source: Adelaide Pink Pages, 1958, p 22) At this point we have no further information about Viking caravans. It appears from the advert that they were van builders rather than re-sellers or a caravan hire outfit, but we can't be certain. In addition we don't know whether the line drawing in the advert is an accurate representation of their vans. Interestingly another advert in the same edition of the Adelaide Pink Pages for Hardy's caravans indicates that their used van department was located at 113 Angas Street, Adelaide (ie the same address as Viking Caravans), but with a different phone number: (Source: Adelaide Pink Pages, 1958, p 22) What the connection was between Viking and Hardy (if any) is unknown. Based on the Viking line drawing, Viking vans looked nothing like the Hardy vans - see hereWe'll just to have wait for the day when a Viking van appears from a shed somewhere to find out more! Thanks to Raym for providing this information to be posted.

G'day Don, Thanks for posting the photo of the Viking caravan. It's the first we've seen on the forum. Is there anything more you can tell us about it, regarding its history, etc? At first glance, based on the front windows and some other design features, I wondered if it had been built by C H Gray. Caravans built by Gray were sold under several different brand names in South Australia. However, having compared the Viking to a few C H Gray vans I've come to the conclusion that it's not. I'm reposting a bigger version of one of your photos here (hope you don't mind?) because when I looked at it, I noted that there appeared to be the remnants of a logo or sign below the front window: It appears to be based on a 'V' shape - a bit like some Viscount logos - which would be logical if it is the 'v' from 'viking'. Are you able to give us any more details? Don Ricardo

Hi Don, The front shot of the Scenic looks very similar to our Adventurer, wonder if it could be related. Someone mentioned Rowvan here. Iain

That's gorgeous - I especially like the sandblasted Viking window! Coming from Viking stock myself I'm feeling a bit jealous

Photo of a Viking caravan from a Caravan Centre catalogue, circa 1958, posted by Elvie here:This is the first contemporaneous photo we've seen of a Viking caravan, but it seems to pretty much match Don's Viking van shown in the posts higher up this thread. I wonder what Timbrok is? Anyone heard of that type of cladding before? Don Ricardo

We have come across a bond wood caravan with the Viking windows - all original in great shape - has the two Viking porthole windows- also has a hawthorn plaque on it
