G'day Rod, It doesn't strike me as being a Franklin at first glance, but anything's possible at this stage. Can you tell me exactly whereabouts on the drawbar you found the number? I only ask because Coronet vans that have appeared on the forum have the number welded on the inside of the drawbar channel arm on the doorside, about where the arm starts to disappear under the front of the van. Coronets had a numerical system (no letters), whereas Franklins maybe had only the one year with numbers only (1960??), and got letters included in '61-'64. Is there any sign of a signature Franklin shelf just above the sink? It'll have a single triangular bracket located under the centre, holding it up. A wittier person than me would say this van's worth working on, even if it does look a bit ragged around the edges. cheers, Al.

Hey Rod congrats on another one!
I reckon the front of that looks pretty close to ours ... but the wheel arches not quite Franklin / Skyline that I can see from the pics but not to sure about that.
Is it bondwood sides and aluminium roof?
Cheers
Doug

Al i can't work out photo bucket yet so asked rod to post photo's i properly sent them to him in small size and they wouldn't blow up. getting back to the old fan the numbers 286 are on the inside of the A frame under where the curve of the caravan rolles under on the opposite side to the door .it has a window above the sink on shelf but it does have a shelf above the frount windowabout two feet long with triangular brackets on each end on top holdind it up.the wooden screen door in side the main door seems like ones i have seen on old franklin vans the van is not as ragged as the photo,s show .i am getting it weighed this morning and it is 14ft 3ins by 7ft cheers Don

Hi Donald80 How nice that the Cowra experience (next to Anne and Graham) in the other park rubbed off on you - you're in now! Welcome to vintage vanning! Cheers Seeshell (Anne and Graham's Daughter In Law)

G'day donald80, I've been mulling over your van a bit more, and obviously the "R" prefix in the chassis number means something. I had a look through the Index in the Down History Lane section, and out of all the 'R' names, the only one that comes close might be the ReLax brand. If you click on this link and scroll down to the bottom to the last van, and compare the look of this van with yours. There are some similarities with the shape of the front, but not enough overall to convince me your van is a ReLax brand. If your van is not a ReLax van, then it'll be another name starting with "R", I reckon. cheers, Al.

g'day to Franklin 1 after hours of looking through threads i have found caravans that look similiar so here i go_______ in Franklin1 thread 28-9-2009 you show a 1960's panorama looks close has the two power plugs on the frount wall behind the gas cylinder ----the back window looks rigkt----outside light in the right place ----windows o.k.-----does not have the small window above the sink as i note very few franklins has ihis window my van does have this window-----my van has a very narrow door just ouer 17 inches the other van very similar is the 14ft.6in.regent looks the same only mine has only one draw in frount of the sink where this shows two draws.as you were looking for a van name starting with R could this be it.at the moment i cant come up with any thing else. cheers that's all i have to report Don

G'day Don, I haven't replied because I've run out of ideas about what brand your van might be. You might have to resort to making up a brand name yourself...maybe call it a "Ranklin", which is sort of like a Franklin but has a chassis number starting with 'R'. cheers, Al.
