Hi Junctionbox, ...I've come to the realisation that I'm better off doing a total re-build of a Viscount. Thanks to this and the classic caravan forum. At least I know it'd last another 20 odd years. Peace of mind and all that. Get with the strength, huh? I made the exact same decision. From my experience there are probably more vintage 60's Viscounts around than any other make which no doubt makes it easier to get parts, etc. Same here. I gave up on ebay and all those pretty pics. My neck of the woods is a high rainfall soakpit! Around here old vans left out in the elements have a tough time and as for barn finds...well I never found any here! BTW that silver/blue Glenlee is back on ebay again, after being sold twice in 2 months. Sure looks good in the pics! But I think you've covered that point? www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vintage-Glenlee-Da-Van-14Ft-Caravan-/261041154844?pt=AU_Caravans_RVs&hash=item3cc743eb1c

actually why IS that Glenlee bouncing back again? always makes me wonder when that happens :/ Me too! That van was sold on ebay 6th April. Then sold again on ebay last week for almost twice the price. Now it's relisted!....go figure? Not saying that this is the case here but it always astonishes me how some people buy cars, vans, boats, and even properties, on line without first inspecting or getting expert opinion.

I must be a bit slow - how can it be sold twice, let alone three times? do we take it that both previous winning bidders defaulted after inspection? all very mysterious!
further, does such a kerfuffle not put the kybosh on current auction? any watchers must surely be a bit sceptical!

ah, now I see. different seller first time around. still doesnt explain the quick turn around and the third listing though. what happened to buyer #2?
jeez louise, this sort of thing makes me VERY glad I found our van the way we did - without having to resort to beeblay!

Hi all, I bought a van. Not a vintage but a 1978 Viscount 17 footer. New draw bar, electric brakes, new tyres. Basically the running gear is all new. The van itself has no leaks but I intend stripping the floor out and building it just the way I envisioned.
Will post pics on the classic caravan forum.
Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions.

Hi JohnStockwell, That's really great news. I trust that you and your family will have a great time caravanning in your Viscount, and that you will enjoy the camaraderie on the Classic Caravan forum. A few of us V V'ers are members there as well. Don't forget to drop in on the Vintage Caravans forum on a regular basis as well. Perhaps we'll get you into a vintage van yet! Don Ricardo

Hi John, welcome, and go to the end of the line. just kidding we're in same boat as you, and it's a cr#ppy old boat. just when grow out of your aversion to caravans, carefully nurtured by hippyish leftish righteous indignation (and such and such), expecting to find a plethora of old vans looking for a new home, there's nada!. we're in nsw, and can't find one for love or money same dealybob as you - family of 4, no leaks (the van, not the family), travelworthy, etc etc. tell you what, if you find one and a spare, let me know, and if I come across any extras, I'll let you know. brilliant! cheers, and happy hunting to both of us

We are contemplating selling our 1968 Murrumba Star as we are buying a modern bigger van to join the grey nomads. If you were at Cowra u may have seen her parked at the gates on the Sunday. The one that looks like a spaceship or aqua caravan. If you are interested you can email me on juices2u@bigpond.net.au
