Hi all, Looks like there has been a bit of misunderstanding here about what people were trying to say in their posts. Hopefully things have been clarified and we can get back to the subject of the thread JohnStockwell started: ...So here's my plea... If anybody has a decent vintage or classic van and want's to see it go to a good family (mum, dad and 2 beautiful daughters in primary school) please let me know. It has to sleep 4 people and preferably have an annex for the kids bikes etc. We wan't to holiday in it. Not just have it look pretty
I'll even drive to bloody Victoria or South Australia to pick it up if it's the right van. I'd prefer one that's mechanically sound and doesn't leak. It will be living in the back yard until I build a shed for the bugger.
...Any help would be much appreciated.
I'm sure JohnStockwell now understands that (a) he should check out any vans he is interested in carefully, because sometimes sellers misrepresent what they are selling, and (b) not all V V's have been subject to leaks, particularly if they have been well looked after. Both points are valid. So, taking that on board, does anyone have a van that may suit JohnStockwell's needs, or can they point him in the direction of one? Hi junctionbox, By that name I reckon your a current or ex electrician. sorry to dissapoint, but I'm an ex telco tech. that's a quantum leap? I think that may take you out of the barn find and put you into the restored bracket. Probably a much better place to be if you are looking for something that's up and running. As I mentioned before I looked at scores of Vic ebay & trading post vans in the price range that you initially mentioned and seemed to be always confronted with the same issues that you mentioned in your op. Ther are no doubt good restored vans that will be available in your revised price range but you may have to wait for that special one that suits your needs. That's a big responsibility and very subjective too? I have a passion for 60's ally vans. You may prefer 50's bondwood? I like a challenge and not affraid of a fixer upper. That's a very nice looking Glenlee (in my opinion) on ebay Melb at the moment but it might not be your cuppa? If it wasn't so far I'd go and have a look. But I'll keep an eye out for anything that may come up in my area. I do know of a local van (a 60's Wayfarer perhaps?) that may be available. It's not advertised anywhere afaik - I'll make some enquiries. Sometimes vans get advertised in local newspapers (particularly in country areas?) that never get listed on ebay, gumtree, etc. Best of luck with your search!

Hi Junctionbox, I'm a fan of the ally's too. I'm not scared of getting me hands dirty doing a fixer upper. But I'll take each challenge at it's merit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Dave, As for leaving my computer room... I grew up in the bush (Narrabri) and I live in a small town Maleny QLD. I have friends and family scattered across this great land and guess what? They all know I'm looking for a van.
This is just another way I'm reaching out to move things along. A computer is a great tool for communication.

Hi Dave, I currently have a commodore SV6 ute. But I'm waiting on a Ford Ranger. It's been ordered but they are having trouble with the import. Hopefully by the end of July.
I like the old classics but I'm not any good at mechanics. Never been interested. I'm from a building background. I can fix anything except for engines.

John and Junctionbox, what sort of tow vehicles do you have?? Dave since you didn't ask .... a falcon wagon on factory gas meantime, I like your ideas about going bush/beach and hunting down old pods. I've actually done the same as John and put the hard word on friends/relatives in far flungs to keep a weather eye out. and every breathing human I come into contact with, or hubby comes into contact with, must suffer the telling of our Great Search. mind you, we only started this saturation bombing approach early this year. the past three years (yes, we've been looking for three years ) it was more a part time affair, and only looking at vans that were relatively local. incidentally, John, I've asked my 'searchers' to look for 2

Hi Guys, I too am new to this forum, why I signed up? I have an old van with annex, my mum gave to me.....sure its cute...but it takes up space in the suburban back yard and we never get to take holidays any way. (last road registered in 85, but towed it last- short distance 2 months ago- long distance 1 year ago) and it travels well. I was going to put it on ebay or some thing similar but due to sentimental reasons and obligation....(to my mum) I havent proceeded with it yet. The van is an escort 10.6 apparently and in pretty good nick, no leaks and sturdy with original internals/paint etc. Has a working gas stove thingo and working gas fridge. Outside paint work needs a touch up and has one broken window...(darn cricket ball!!) I am happy to accept offers from genuine buyers and Im located in the Northern Rivers Region NSW if you want to have a look.........what do ya reckon ??

the van looks lovely, Wanda1 but could you give a few more details, and/or pics on the sleeping arrangements? ie, how many does it sleep (important to those of us with kids in tow!)? and how the berths are configured, etc. thanks again!
