After contemplating our plan of action over the past few months,
the initial steps toward restoring the Atlantic to its former glory has begun.
Firstly, we removed the four rows of screws that secured the floor to the chassis and the four rusty bolts from the side walls.
The caravan was then blocked up using a couple of star pickets and the chassis extracted.
The chassis itself is a bit rough but nothing a bit of welding, sandblasting and painting won’t fix.
It will need a new draw bar and cross members at the front and rear.
The van rolls on 15 inch Austin wheels... rodnet advised they are probably off an early 1950’s Austin A40
Inside, the van has fold down tables that convert to a single bed at the front and a double at the rear... although the rear table and all the cushions are missing.
The kitchen is original and will require the least work......
Three of the windows have been replaced and are not original.. so if anyone know where we could find a few original Alfab windows with four rounded corners, it would be much appreciated.
Well thats it for now... will return when we have down a bit more work on the old girl.
