Hello all! I have just joined this forum because I hope someone will be able to help me with some information regarding this caravan, as to how old it might be and how much it would weigh? I could well be in the wrong forum, lol, but until I have a better idea of just how old this van might be, I don't know. It has been offered to us and we are very keen to buy it because it is in very good external condition and mostly just needs internal renovation. We also need to find out its weight so we will then know if our vehicle is capable of towing it safely before we make any final decision on buying it. Hoping someone here can help us with the info we need. Only info we do have is that it is a Viscount Ambassador and the towbar has this no: H5-6353 on it but we don't know if this is a model or chasis no.?
Thanks for any help you can give us!
cheers Linnymick

G'day Linnymick, and welcome to the forum! ;D Your van appears to be from 1972. The number you've given is unusual, so I'd need to see a close-up photo of that number to confirm the age. However, all other aspects of the van point to it being from around 1972 or early 1973. To determine an approximate weight of the van, measure the cabin length from the bump under the front windows, along the side to the rear (basically measuring along the bottom of the purple paint band). Measure in "feet" if you can, then multiply the number of feet by 52kgs. Add another 100kgs to that figure. 16ft x 52kgs = 832kgs + 100 = 932kgs The tare weight of the van will be approximate based on that calculation, but will be fairly close. Should you need any further help with your van, pop over and join the Classic Caravans forum for vans built from 1970 up to 1979. Click on this link to take you there. (...and just as I checked to make sure my hyperlink worked, I see you've already posted the same question over there, so I'll answer you on both forums ) cheers, Al.
