In a moment of weakness I became besotted with an old 1951 Land Rover 80" - must have been the post cards Cobber has been posting. Anyway I now have Lionel inspected and registered & almost got him home to Bakers Hill, but he must have taken a liking to Northam because he is still there undergoing troubleshooting for not running any more. Well he had done nearly 60 kms since a complete rebuild - not bad for 60 year old. Anyway I do love him & I know you all like photo's so here are a few: Nice inside but not very weather proof. As for steering Lionel uses the worm & wheel method, but I believe the worm has either died or run off. The overhead inlet side valve exhaust 1595cc motor - awesome, well in looks at least. 11 + HP. What drought - the day I go to pick him up it buckets down & the one wiper is on the wrong side of the screen, as much runs down the inside as outside. But it is fun, & I just can't wait to get him home. Just need to find a small van for him to tow, preferably something slightly power assisted;D Cheers Jodel

Hey Jodel, love your Landy. I do have a soft spot for them. We had a 1969 2A LWB hardtop for many years, and apart from a few head rebuilds (burnt exhaust valves) and a genny rebuild and quite a few fuel piumps and the odd axle or two, it never let us down untill well over 250, 000 miles. Well done hope you enjoy. Looking froward to seeing it with a van on the back. Don

love Land Rovers. Friends if mine have the exact same thing but a series 3. Same sort of condition, completely original and a staggering 22,000 miles since new!

Love it!
I am sure that Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart drove one of these in Dr Who. I used to watch that show when I was a wee young van.
Go the Pommy cars.

Well...love the landrover! It will most likely outlast our current "freeloader we call it". It has been basically repaired in every way, stitched up, re built & is still giving us grief!!! Gotta luv em! But I love driving the damn thing cause it's sooo comfy and easy to handle! AND it's not a city landy it has been taken up dirt tracks that only a wombat would love! Enjoy!

Only a glutton for punishment would even consider one of those dinosaurs Pommy cars well Jags but 4wd??? You need a cut lunch and waterbag just to get to the gate with those vehicles, and I use the term lightly. ;D Pete

Hi Don, Well just for you & seeing how I only just got old Lionel back from Northam after 3 weeks or so - long story but a Solex diaphragm problem - seems they are quite rare, not the problem but the diaphragm! Here is how Lionel would look with Wanda in tow. - Not going to happen but looks cool. Yellowuki, Mine has a massive 00000 miles on the clock & will have forever, the speedo sort of works but the miles they just stay at 00000 so a real low mileage vehicle. Curtis, Thanks for your comments, I love it too - wife not yet convinced. I'm sure I saw a Series 1 in Dr. Who, but watch twice a week Maggie's in Heartbeat, but her's is later than our's & probably a lot more powerfull. I do like the original but speed it has not got - nor steerage, brakes - mmmmm, waterproofness - mmmmm, but damn it's pommy & good looking. Brings a smile to my face. Hi Jenniewren, Glad you love your freeloader, I wish Lionel was a freeloader, because he ain't non of the things you mention, no syncro on 1st or 2nd gear, a whopping 40mph top speed or so - but "running-in" at present so do not exceed 65 KPH?? But how many cars can you just wide open the doors and hose all the dirt out? ;D Just remember not to park a Land Rover next to a Grey Ferguson tractor, because within 3 weeks of Lionel living in the same shed next to Fergie something strange happened:- This is Mrs Fergie above. & this is Lionel with little " FEREL". Not a nice name for a sibling.

HI, love the pics. i'd take the fergie over the deere john anyday. we have a craftsman 17.5 which replaced the david brown cropmaster, i still think that was a mistake but a least the other half will now drive the mower .

hi jodel
that's a really nice looking landy.
enjoy it and don't go speeding (40 mph) in it, it's too good to damage.
why not use it as a tow car, it should have the torque to do the job.

Hi mgandwartz, I agree with you - but Fergie does not fit between the trees in the orchard or the raised veggie patch sleepers - my wife say's why did you get her then - well she was good looking & grey, & I can still use her for ...... surveying things. Hi Geoff 'n jude, Thanks for the nice comments,- and by the way love your Lincoln, wow a 4 door convertible how cool, and just a small V8. As for Lionel he apparently can tow a 2,300 lb gross loaded trailer as provided by Brockhouse trailers back in the early '50's. So a small Carapark may be the go, would look good all boxy & square behind Lionel. But still the performance of the "F" head 1.6 engine is a worry. Strange to think that the current 2011 90" Land Rover Defender (2.2 TD) will lug 3,500 Kgs - it's only 10 inches longer??? ;D ;D ;D ;D Off to the naughty corner right now. Cheers Jodel P.S. Apologies for tardy response, bought myself an Amazon Kindle for xmas last year & can't put the damned thing down!!!! It is capable of holding 3500 book & I've only read 32
