Hi All, I had no luck locating new rubbers for my 1967 Olympic with O.Baker & Son windows so I am having the die made and after calling a number of manufacturers (who weren’t too nice) I have found one who I have had discussions with about doing a test sample then a "run". I presume this rubber wasn't exclusive to one window manufacturer so it might be of use to the wider caravan community, Sunliners looks the same and according to lazza maybe Roadmaster. If anyone is interested you can send me a PM or e mail so I can see what amount I might need to add to my order. They are still working me out the quote and the minimum run so I don't know how much yet. Whatever it costs I don't have much option other than replacing the windows which is too expensive and I want to keep the originals anyway. If there are other "special" rubbers that anyone might need send me a PM or e mail and I will see if I can get enough volume to make a die and do a run. This is a cross section that slides into the aluminum frame and seals against the body when the window is closed. Cheers, TonyH.

Greetings Tonyh Is this the rubber holding the glass in? If it is count me in. I need to do all my windows. Will it be in black or grey?
If it is rubber sealing the aluminium against the fibreglass. Ie when pulling the window frame completely out and resealing it into the fibreglass hole it came out of.... I am using mastic and then sealing the aluminium edge all around so no water has a hope of getting between the fibreglass and aluminium frame. This is the way it is done on boats. Including luxury yachts.

Hi Atog, Yours is a 1968 - the windows are different, as you say you just seal the outside frame, on the early models this rubber does the sealing against the fibreglass when closed. The rubber you need to hold the glass tight is available from your local friendly glass repairer - when I did all the windows in my 1974 Viscount I took a piece of the old rubber and matched it up - they have heaps of different types and pretty cheap. Only comes in black though, which I wasn't happy about but when they were all done it looked good. A word of warning - It is worthwhile sliding the inside part of the window out, dismantle, checking the corner stakes for damage, cleaning the aluminum that the glass rests against, because if you just replace the rubber there might be some corrosion on the frame which will distort and probably brake the glass when you fit the new tight rubber. Cheers, TonyH.

Hi All, Getting close now as we are down to final drawings (BELOW) to make up the die and will do a "trial" run to check in the window frame - lead time is about 4 to 5 weeks. Once I do the checking and they do any "tweaking" to the die the first run will be 200 metres and should work out to about $8.00 per metre. I have had a great response so everyone that contacted me, please let me know if you are interested and how much so I will see if I have to increase the first run. Cheers, TonyH

Hi All, Getting close now, I put in the "official"order and the die is being made and hope to have the test run in about 2 weeks (approx 1 metre) so I can check it in the frame and then the full run 2 weeks later all going well after any adjustments are made if necessary. - I will let everyone know ASAP Cheers, TonyH

Hi All, I changed the heading because I have just received a sample of rubber by Lynda in Cairns from her Sunliner with qualcraft windows to check to see if it matches my sample out of my Olympic and it Does!!!!! ;D It matches and fits in the aluminum frame beautifully. I am waiting on other samples from "other" makes of Vans and windows to see what else we can match up. I will keep you informed as I go. Cheers, TonyH

Tony
I'm restoring a sunliner withqualcraft windows, and would love to get 8 metres of the rubber profile.
Apiarist 1 (Arthur McCulloch 0249342334). Let me know if it goes ahead, and where I can send some funds to.

Hey Everybody, ;D Just an update - I have been shown the "first" run of the new rubber and we are doing some "tweaking" of the die to get the shape as near to original as possible. Rubber is unique in that unlike other products the die shape does not give you your finished product sizing and you keep modifying the die after each test run to get the desired shape and size. The run I was shown was after a few test runs and a number of e mails and trips for discussions - no wonder other people I spoke to didn't want to do this job!!! Once the rubber has been vulcanized it can't be chopped up and put back into the mix like plastic and other products, it is waste. The only good part is that when we do the "final" run next week and the die is finished (hopefully) we can do a run anytime and the finished product will be the same as the previous run. ;D Cheers, tonyh.

Had a look at the second run on Tuesday and I was very impressed, they have got it very close - or am I just being picky? They are going to do another run on Friday or Monday after the die maker does his magic. Once I am happy I will send samples to all who have ordered so you can be sure it fits your windows before sending your order. tonyh

Hi Everyone, - hang in there a bit longer - the manufactures have been waiting for the correct type of raw material to arrive - and it has, today . So with any luck I can check the sample next Wednesday since the die maker has spun his magic and we can finally get this show on the road ;D

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I picked up the new rubber sample today and it looked perfect, and a good snug fit but when I tried to fit a full length it was too tight at the bend in the frame because when they bend the aluminum frame to make the window it compresses the "T" slot for the rubber. So on Monday they will look to do the final (I hope)"tweak" of the die and run a sample on Tuesday. Will keep you all updated.
