Thanks heaps for your comments guys, and Banno ;D It's an illness I have It would be far less painful, and not as time consuming if I had a different approach. My occupation demands planning, commitment and consistency so I suppose I'm a product of my vocation. The latest build update Bingo . Or is that BLINGO Brad painted the rims late last week. Also last week the auto electrician repaired the rat damaged wiring loom under the dash, installed power to the Alpine stereo, central locking and car security system. Twin exhaust system was installed and the new seat belts arrived. Latest update on the upholstery is that it arrived in Florida, Saturday, awaiting international posting. I hope so It's pretty much the final major, on the cars rebirth. Swellwillys

Hi Swell
Between this and the Sunliner I don't know where you find the time - love the surf theme, tikis, barkcloth, and all the lovely veneer!
I recognised the headliner fabric because I almost picked the same for my seat cushions (hamakua?) before coming across 10m of vintage fabric I couldn't go past. That place in hawaii has an amazing array of colours and patterns that really are period perfect! Did you get the fabric there for the seats in the Sunliner too?
Where are you going with the interior of the car - I'm putting in votes for a tiki shifter knob!
Keep up the great work. I love watching people's projects - it makes it so much easier to stay motivated on my own. ;D
Love the work - Seeshell

Hey Seeshell ( love that name!) Each time I read your comments I feel like you know me and are involved in our design discussions. Your not are you ?? We purchased the seat fabric for the Sunliner from an interior decorating shop in Noosa. It was designed by a past Mambo artist. We'd always talked about having Mambo fabric on the seats so when we saw it, it wasn't a hard decision to buy. And yes, I have to admit their is a TIKI shifter and indicator knob going onto the safari. There you go again guessing the next move ! You'll have to wait to see the seat fabric I'm afraid But from a cryptic perspective it's not vintage it's prehistoric. Regards, Swellwillys

Ah ha!
Dinosaur skin/crocodile upholstery! You're taking out the floor for your feet to touch the road - a la Flintstones. No, no wait...um, something to do with fossils!
It's good fun waiting to see what you guys will do next!
Cheers Seeshell

Cousin of "Swell" is nearing completion, with the interior at the upholsterers. (Two rear door panels complete so far and it's looking swell) We expect the upholstery to be in our hands by Friday 18th March. As mentioned previously the plan is to utilize the safari for towing the sunny. It needed to be drivable, reliable, economical and able to stop, quickly if needed. We haven't rebuilt the engine/trany internals at this stage, however all the externals have been replaced, distributor, belts, pipes, plugs, radiator, battery, exhaust system, air cleaner and oil filters, etc. A major improvement has been replacing all the brake cylinders, ball joints and bushes front and rear as well as new shocks ( pump up rears.) Replaced the front drums With discs. New Booster and master cylinder Twin exhausts ( thats a joke) Swellwillys

Mr and Mrs Swellwillys - Love the progress with the engine and body, but waiting eagerly for the 18th March - stop teasin' us! Where's the crocodile upholstery? It's too bad you can't add a soundtrack to the reveal of Swell's Little Cousin on Proboards. I'm thinking Dick Dale and the Del-Tones' Miserlou...or something wicked by Chris Issac. Music to appreciate by. *grin* Seeshell

Traveled to Kingaroy on Saturday the 26th to install the upholstery and complete anything else we could do to get it registered. Got out of the Mazda to be greeted by Brad driving up to us in the Talant. We got "Overhauled" ;D ;D ;D ;D It's a treat. Jooles and I love it ! Thanks Brad for your efforts ! Drove her home Sunday arvo, ran like a dream after we repaired the fuel overflow( perished hose). Some photos I took before we left" El Rancho". You did very well Seeshell in the quess what it is - It's dinosaur. There's not a lot of it around but I was able to locate a supplier in the USA. Backcloth headliner with Ikea rug bound by dinosaur tail vinyl. Cane rattan speaker covers . The two electrical components are a 12 volt outlet for the Waeco and a switch for the interior LED's above the tailgate. Going to Jungleise the board racks before our Easter Safari. Swellwillys

Hi Guys Well that looks fantastic - well worth the Jurassic wait for the fabric from Florida. I certainly am impressed by your style and originality. It's going to attract a lot of attention - are you going to make some custom "lean over" pads to go with and protect your beauty from belts and zips? And windex to get all the huff and nose marks off the glass. ;D Maybe just modify a touch alarm to sound like a T-Rex. Cheers Seeshell

Thanks for the comments Banno,Sheppo,Vernon and Seeshell. Appreciate your words.
Sheppo: Bought a 71 HQ panno, new, and put purple fur on the roof with timber walls, purple carpet with hawaiian print curtains and pillows , so a barkcloth headliner was the natural progression to me.
I'd seen bamboo and thatched headlinings on surf themed cars before so to me, this was amore practical and colorful extension of the theme.
I always like to think out side the square. After all why not?
We have also bought a similar barkcloth( different print and color) for SWELLWILLYS.
Regards, Swellwillys
