Greetings all Freeway owners, As you know we have out little Curtis, and he has been complaining a bit about how his bum always drags on the ground as he exits and enters our driveway. We responded with; "Harden up princess - you have little wheels at the back of your stands and they protect your butt anyway - so get over it" Curtis has not taken this well..... .....but we have the tools that disassemble things like Freeways so he tends to toe the line.... Yesterday while visiting Barbarab (nice V'Van by the way) we had a look under their Freeway and noticed that it has a different axle to Curtis, the difference being that it is straight and Curtis' axle is a drop axle. This means that Curtis sits somewhat lower than Barbarab's Freeway. Now there is a year difference between the models, ours is 1966 (12'9") and Barbarab's is a 1965 (15'9"), but considering that Curtis does tend to drag his butt on the ground a bit, we are now wondering if we have the right axel.... Can anyone provide some feedback on what should be there please?? If Curtis has the wrong one then we are going to have to apologise to him and then he will think he can push me around.... Thanks Dave.

I'm pretty sure all Franklins were on drop axles unless by special order. Some of the longer tandems were on straight axles to clear gutters and driveways ,same as modern vans are today. Cheers hughdeani

Hi, our Betsy also has two roof hatches. I don't think I've seen photos of any other Freeway that has two. Barbara B

Hi All, We did see a few Freeways at Torquay over the Australia Day long week end. (Great caravan park, lots of older vans, all on permanent sites, I reckon Curtis was the only one still on the road.....) Looked under all of them and they all had straight axels, also looked under a Caravelle and it had a straight axel too. Looks like Curtis is the only one out there with a drop axel - so far. Thanks for the feed back guys - I will have to find a straight axel for him, as he does drag his bum very often, and yes, thank goodness for those little wheels. Dave
