Hey Folks Well have now had the WB panelvan for almost 18 months. She's done an admirable job But the engine was a little tired. So a few months ago decided to get another blue motor and do it up. After much stuffing about the newly recoed engine was ready to go in. Got everything together last week and finally got the old one out. The Missus wasn't real happy about the grease and oil and ..... in the garage but.... It happens. After much grunting, head scratching, head smacking against various unseen steel objects. The new blue is in. Still have to fire it up. Have discovered muscles and pains I never thought I'd had. Arrrr the joys of machinery. ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Hey Doug Weeeeeellllll A few things have happened over the past few weeks. Apart from the Yasi cyclone. I got the new engine in and fired it up all expectantly and excited. Purred like a kitten plenty of compression..... ;D ;D ;D ;D Big smiles all round Did a trip around the block and..... Then Smoke. Put the foot down just a little ........ smoke. What the? Much discussion later Decided that perhaps I hadn't put the valve stem seals in properly. So a week or so later having reseated the valves on the old head - got myself another head gasket and go at it. End of the weekend newly reseated head is on. Fire her up..... no smoke....... then ....... Yep same thing again. AAAARRRRRRRHHHHHHHHH Since then there has been head scratching, a cyclone and more ideas. Mate of mine thinks the vacuum from the auto may be sucking up auto fluid. So sometime soon will block up the vacuum line and see. Other wise .... it's off with it's head and remove a couple of pistons to see if I've broken an oil ring or two. Specifically pistons 2 and 3 as there was burnt oil on the tops of these pistons only when I pulled the head off. We'll see. Cheers Atog

Hmmm BUGGER! If you replaced the oil rings (and I'm gussing you did) maybe they are not in right way up - I think it is possible to put them in upside down??? I'm feeling your pain - looks like I'm in head gasket mode myself - my daily driver Commodore has a confirmed blown head gasket (apparently pretty common after 240k) and now the FJ is displaying all the signs! I own three cars and looks like only one of them works at the moment! Good luck with the motor - hope it ends up being an EASY fix..

Atog & doug, all I can say is BUGGER nothing worse than car trouble and I hope that you both find an easy fix, I remember when I had my timing troubles very frustrating for such a small problem, I for one will be taking my latest to the mechanics on Saturday for final check over and RWC so I'll have fingers crossed for a good outcome, nothing more satisfying than a finished project.

hey Gents Well I blocked up the hoses and took her for a run....... Let's just say that there is no mosquito problem in our area at the moment. So it will be off with the head and sump and pull no 2 and 3 pistons out. Can''t do it this weekend, too much on. So will have to wait a bit longer. Oh well...... perhaps I need the practice Cheers Atog

I'll come clean on this one as well. There is a reason I'm not in any great hurry to fix the WB Remember this scene from twelve months ago? Well as of a few weeks ago it now looks like this. Now have a 1997 40th anniversary 80 series 4.5 ltr petrol Landcruiser. Runs well and will be the new tow car for the Olympic. Missus isn't happy about using the WB...... Missus is happy about using the cruiser. Cheers Atog
