Unfortunately due to my newly acquired VV not fitting under my carport and thus not being able to get it into my back yard, I will have to part with it.
The caravan is a Roadmaster and somehow I feel it is quite a unique one. It clearly is a Greythorne shape, (see Vintage Caravans :: Down History Lane :: Down History Lane :: Greythorne caravans) which as you all well know were made by Roadmaster here in Adelaide and then sold in Melbourne. One would guess that the Roadmaster brand were defined by their uniquely ‘tudor’ roof. So I guess that the original owner liked the Greythorne shape but the Roadmaster brand.
I purchased this van from the original owner’s sister who was winding up her brother’s estate. She is unsure what year he bought it and I think it would be about a 1962 model although the registration papers state a year of manufacturer as 1965.
It unfortunately sat in the back yard of the owner, not under cover and the last year of registration was 1989 I think. It has held up surprisingly well but there is certainly some work to be done on it. It looks like the inside has been re-painted by the owner. Some of the wood on the inside has ‘split’ in places and there is some rot in the back corners.
The original lino on the floor seems to be missing and has been replaced with newer lino that has been poorly cut and fitted. It doesn’t appear to be stuck down.
The stove is a JETFLAME brand but I don’t know whether it works as there is no gas cylinder.
The fridge is a gas/electric MORPHY RICHARDS ASTRAL brand. Today I plugged it in and the freezer is icing up so I take it that it is working. Could do with a good clean.
The front dinette has the original cushions made by VANREST in Adelaide. They seem rather heavy, so I am not sure that the foam is very good. May have degraded over time.
The rear singles also have the original mattresses.
There are two fluorescent lights, forward and rear, in the van. The front one works but the diffuser end is broken. The back one is missing some bits and the fluro tube is ‘dead’.
The roof hatch has paint peeling of it and from the outside it looks like it needs repairing/replacing.
The outside is showing the effects of the weather. The pink paint has faded, the window rubbers in all opening and fixed windows need replacing. Obviously the outside needs a significant amount of work to tidy it all up. It is all there – just needs repair.
The front wrap around windows doe not appear to have any leaks but seemed to have become opaque with age.
The van did have hydraulic over rider brakes but the mechanism is missing.
I am currently attending to the lights. the two front clearence lights are original as well as the rear LHS. The rear RHS have been replaced by a newer style but these have weathered quite alot and will ahve to be replaced. As I said, i am trying to get the lights up and running and will have to replace the rear lights with newer ones however this could be tempory so that the van can be towed. All original lights that are taken off, will be suplied with the van.
Inspection is welcome.
Please PM me if interested.
Thanks
