Hi, sorry, I’m in Victoria. There’s no registration info anywhere on the van that’s obvious. I had another good look underneath for any welded or punched numbers but no luck. I’ll try add a few photos of the van. We are just about ready to start looking into getting the registration done. Hopefully it’s a smooth process!

Hi Xav92, Not all manufacturers put a serial/chassis number on their vans, although I presume they had some way of identifying them for their own records. It sounds like Miami might be in that group. Prior to 1989 when VIN numbers were introduced for caravans, there was no requirement for manufacturers to provide an ID number for their vans. I did a search of the forum, and there is no mention of any serial or chassis numbers for Miamis, apart from Mapelgum who told us that they couldn't find a number for the Miami they restored either. You may be interested in their thread here. All is not lost though. You can apply to VicRoads for a VIN and have that stamped on your drawbar prior to registration. Not as good as an original chassis number from your perspective, but at least it will get you on the road. Don Ricardo

We had to get a vic roads vin number when we registered Bessie, was very easy just rang Vic roads and they gave one over the phone. Just make sure it is clearly stamped on the drawbar, they check when you get the van registered. We stamped it directly on the drawbar in a more discreet location with number stamps and also made a small stainless steel plate and stamped it onto that and attached it to another location which was more visible on the drawbar. It passed their inspection with no issues.

Hi everyone, Thanks for the advice, I phones vicroads this morning and they issued me a vin over the phone. It was too easy! Now to book it in for an inspection and hit the road!
Another question though.. I’m trying to polish the aluminum cladding on the outside and by the time I wash a section, cut it, clean the cutters off, polish it, clean the excess polish off it’s taking forever and very hard to get the whole van consistent. Does anyone have any tips? I’m guessing it’s never been polished in its 52 years!

I can’t seem to upload a photo from my phone but the van is exactly the same as the first photo on this thread spotted by winterwood and the other posted by don Ricardo after it. It’s raw aluminum with the same painted stripes.

I’m trying to polish the aluminum cladding on the outside. hi when we first had the ritz, the centre panels were painted. we removed the paint with stripper then "polished" the aluminiun with soapy steel wool. that was 15 years ago and this is how it still looks without ever being redone or ever actually using any polish. don't use steel wool though unless it's soapy, otherwise it will leave lots of streak marks. geoff 'n jude

Hi Xav92, The best way to post photos using your mobile is via the 'Add Attachment' button. There are instructions on how to do that here. However because you're using your mobile there's an additional step you need to take to make the 'Add Attachment' button appear - just scroll down to the bottom of the instructions. Once this button's there, it will enable you to post photos from the photo album on your phone. Very easy once the button is there! I should add that the instructions are for an iPhone, and I am assuming that the same will work for Android or Google phones. If you're using one of the latter can you let me know if the instructions work, and or the screens are the same, please? Thanks. In the meantime we'll look forward to seeing some photos of your van.
