This is the car I mentioned on "Whatever" that i needed transport from newcastle. It is a 1972 Sunbeam Rapier fastback that I owned 4 years ago and just bought back. Something different and if I have trouble with the Hunter wagon anytime this should still tow the Munro. 1725cc twin carb 4spd with overdrive and a 68 litre tank makes for a good weekend cruiser. Give me a chance !! The car has only been home 2 days and I have already replaced hoses, wheels, tyres and mirrors. The car has sat for a while hence the brakes are grabbing a bit so thought a run today may help loosen things up. Got to a club meet and later found the rear centre caps on the ground. Turns out the rear brakes are still dragging so that heated up the wheel and the plastic caps and when they cooled they contracted and fell off. Car goes into the garage tomorrow for a full work over on the brakes plus to see if a wagon tow bat will fit as the Rapier is based on the Hunter wagons. Mind you it probably won't be needed as the Hunter runs the trusty Mitsubishi engine and electrics so is pretty reliable. Rollydog

Rod, These cars were never sold new here so we did a rough count and estimated there to be app 50 in Australia with as little as 12 currently on the road. Of my 4 only the silver one is now registered with another to hit the road next year but many ex UK cars suffered the rust problem in the lower panels. I'm still regretting knocking back the one with a 302V8 that I was offered in New Zealand a few years ago. Rollydog

I seen one of the last Rapiers built in shed just recently when i was looking at an old van. Looks exactly the same as that one Rollydog. Bloke has owned if for 24 years . It has been resprayed black and needs reassembling. He has several other interesting mid 70s sports cars ( honda 800 coupe and 2000 Datsun like Earlees bros car) that are just begging to be saved / restored.. Reddo

Reddo I have heard of a black one. By chance did it have wire wheels on it ?? Don't think Pininfarina had any thoughts on this one but there are some Chrysler influences though.
Rod- technically the car was made in Scotland I like them because they cruise well and they are different and around 700 k on one tank makes them pretty economical too.
