You've probably seen the occasional photo of my other tow car......a 1970 HT Brougham. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it does it for me.............
some reminders.........
Some of you may have heard me relate the story of how, just before we headed off for Mt Gambier and the big trek around Oz in the FC & Madonna, I pulled up at home in the Brougham after attending a wedding and a nasty rattle eminated from the engine bay . A quick listen by a couple of local mechanics gave no real clue as to what had happened and the Brougham was duly pushed into the shed to await our return.
A couple weeks ago, surgery was undertaken and the trusty 308 lifted out............
the prognosis..........a small bolt worth about 15 cents from the carburetor had worked its' way loose and disappeared through the manifold...................
and this was the result ....number one piston with no top, bent conrod, scored bore and head damage........
At some stage earlier in it's life, the 308 had been bored out 40 thou and the intake manifold altered.......the removed sections from the manifold had permitted the bolt to pass through .............
Motor currently being re-built (I'm assured by my trusty mechanic that the oil rings will be put in the correct way up, unlike the way he found them ).
No insurance for these type of events...........just grin and bear it.......(the term "caveat emptor" comes to mind)
Pretty expensive way to fit a mild cam
