Hi Guys/Gals,
Just thought i would chip in and second Reddo's comments!! ;D For those who are in 2 minds about the tour, definitely do it! Last year i certainly was- having not met any of the VV crew.. But i threw the van on the car and had an absolute ball. Would love to do it again if i had the leave.
So give it a go, you will have a blast!
Cheers, J-Rod

:DHi ya Reddo, well at last we can say we are in mate ,you know like Flynn. I thought we would be missing this one this year but have managed to pull it all together at last .It's like putting the band back on the road .YeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaa I'm excited noooooowwwwww any one still thinking about going and humming and haaing about petrol prices, think what our old mate Daggsey says- just do it, it aint going to get any cheaper. Also was just thinking I reckon that all of you are probably like me[sorry for those who may be offended by that ] a bit of a hoarder and have got too much STUFF ,you know caravan STUFF, period accessories that you raced out and bought when you first got your van ,and have since replaced with better STUFF. WELL why don't we have a mini swap meet at Coledale. :how good would that be.What do you all think about that.May be just have a table set up outside your van on saturday morning for a couple of hours. sugarshack.

............I reckon that's a great idea Wayne. Some of us may even elect to donate part of our proceeds to our chosen charity?................ I reckon fewer pieces of interesting STUFF , rather than a huge pile of JUNKY stuff would make for a great mini swap , and would be sure to create interest not only among ourselves but also the visiting general public

Hi Clyde, yes that would be a good idea with the donation part ,say ten clams a site, and no rubbish as it would spoil the whole look .May be we could exclude car parts unless the are small like twin over head fox tails. Sugar shack.

If you have been ..... poocrust......piecrust... procrackst...... ..... ummmmm if ya have been in 2 minds about signing up for this years pacific coast madcap and mayhem trip... otherwise known as "The Adventure Before Dementia Tour"....Now is the time ta sort it out. Go in to your bosses office and TELL him in no uncertain manner that YOU have decided that you are overworked and henceforth give notice that he /she can insert your job where the sun dont shine for at least a week or so in October. If they protest .... ... Then just tell em.."You cant sack me.. I quit".. Go on.... ... do it first thing tomorrow. Either that or just smash some part of your body with a hammer and go off on compo.... the pain will be worth it. Just whack something that isnt involved in holding a steering wheel or a stubby. ;D... Gaaarn ... betcha cant do it.... bloody Nancys...Just slice off an ear or a finger . . Chopper Read and i can do it .. well so can you Ok ... Ahem where was i ... Oh yeah.... 8 starters and maybe a couple of cameo appearances from a few locals as the Dementia snowball rolls south. Aint too sure how many weeks it is to Saturday 10/10/2008 but i know its closing in fast. I promised all the park managers that i would give them exact numbers the first week in September. and..... Thats next week. ... so..... thats about 6 weeks to the tour... Seven until Coledale.... TIME TO REMOVE THAT DIGIT .!!!! So again i say , come up with an excuse to get on the black bitumen with your rig for a week... This is what vintage vanning is all about . Making the wheels go round and showin' 'em off to the poor unfortunates that havent yet discovered the joys of wobbly old vans with short drawbars. ;D . Tell the company . Ya just won Lotto and are taking a week off. Ya gunna give half of it to the company when ya get back... Then when ya get back , tell em ya spent it all ;D ;D ;D Ya granny has just gone "Belly up" in Nambucca :'(and you have to go and help the relos "plant " her. There is a million excuses.. . Or you can subscribe to that American sandshoe co slogan and .."Just Do It". Reddo... O-fishoil Terror Organeyeser

hi All,
Following a slightly alcohol influenced discussion at pottsville recently, I vaguely recollect that some of us northerners agreed that we could start the tour a day or so early by camping at our place on the thursday &/or friday nights, then heading for nambucca about 9 am on the Saturday morning.
Its a bit over 4 hours from here to Nambucca, which is a good easy drive.
Your all welcome. Power is available, & limited facilities( We live in a100 plus year old farmhouse. There's tons of parking space, & the barbie on the front verandah isnt too bad.
Let us know by PM if you intend to stop over so Boots can prepare. JBJ

Hi All Tour was great. Pity i stuffed up loading the photos of it and Coledale onto my computer this morning .... deleted the lot out of my camera and then went back to the computer and found that i have lost the lot. Ahhhhh wellll ... they cant take away the memories....... Or can they... It was called "The Adventure Before Dementia Tour" I will share a few memorys with ya... 1. Saturday night ( day one) ... picked up a diamond python crossing the road in the middle of camp. It then proceed to coil itself up my arm and crush it. CRIKEYS.... so i choked it and we come to an agreement not to hurt each other. I released him on a nearby tree and he was happy live up there for the next few days. 2. Monday .. cruisin out to the pub with no beer for lunch. Great photos of 12 vans on a bend covered in flowering .. what i thought was jacarandas or something like that. Then the cruise through Port Macquarie . Sorry i didnt spot you classicrodderkaz. 3. Monday night ( day 3) being awoken in the middle of the night by the van being rocked violently from side to side. No big deal but we where camped on top of the cliffs at Bonny Hills and i thought the van had rolled over the chocks and heading for a suicide drop. Turned out to be Earlee playing silly buggers on his way home to bed. Revenge came the next morning when i buttered all of his EK door handles and the door handle on the van before he woke up.. 4. Tuesday night . Massive storm at Gloucester. 20 of us partying in the old Pumphouse shed in out of the rain. 2 of the travelling jack russells having a punch up in between our legs and scattering us in all directions...... I think we called it a draw 5. Wednesday arvo.. sitting having a beer looking out over Lake Macquarie at Belmont with the missus and then.... Sugarshack comes down the hill to tell me "Trevor ( his dog) says ya yella". I looked around and Wayne had assembled his Billycart a day early.... Not one to decline a challenge i dragged the billycart off the ute and the challenge began. A funny arvo of Billycart derby preliminary races.... 6. Seeing everyone on the tour enjoying the last night together in the camp kitchen scoffing tiger prawns, chocolates, and tim tams. All those on the tour made it to Coledale the next day except JBJ who had damaged 2 tyres and rims on the Dodge on the way from Wingham to Gloucester. They finally made it about 4 on Friday arvo. To all that went on the tour. Thanks for the company and the commaraderie shared while we where "On the Wallaby" To me this is what its all about. Next years tour will be based loosely around the Olympic Highway Starting from Wagga Wagga and then up through Coota, Junee, Young to Cowra and then over to Bathurst. Then onto Coledale around Thursday lunchtime again. Keep ya eyes open for the 2009 tour details later.... Cant wait, cant wait, cant wait.... Reddo... Tour Dogsbody

Great photos Daggsey, Kingy and Reddo. Looking at them at least gives those of us who have to stay at home a taste of life on the road. Not as good as the real thing, but something to feast on anyway. Love the pics of the conga line of vans - a summation of Australia's touring heritage all in the space of 1/2 a km. Don Ricardo

Hi Barb & Sutcac,
I would have been extremely happy to have remained part of the tour group after Gloucester, but unfortunately the problems I had couldn't be repaired real quickly.
Sorry I cant post pix until Boots gets back from Sydney next week. Basically we hit a mother of a pothole on the Bucketts Way north of Gloucester. Nearly threw the Sunliner off.
When we got to Gloucester, I happened to glance at the rear wheels on the Dodge, & noticed a large tennis ball sized bubble in each rear sidewall. That meant both my relatively new tyres were stuffed. So I went to all 4 off Glouscester tyre dealers, but no one had any 205x50x16 tyres in stock.
A decision was then made to leave early on Thursday morning to go to Newcastle & buy some tyres at Kurri, as well as pick up our grand daughter, before catching up with the group at Belmont.
On the way down to Newcastle, the Sunliner started swaying more than normal. So when I went to the tyre service, I got them to jack it up. Found that the left hand wheel had over an inch of side to side movement.
Rang around & got on to Humpty, who said OK, bring it here & we'll pull it apart & fix it.
Dropped Boots at Kurri Motel to be with our family that live nearby, as I had no idea what I would find. A phone call to Spyder & I found out how it should dis assemble.
SO luckily Humpty finishes truck driving reasonably early, & we had it apart in short time.
Found the outer bushing on the axle completely missing.
By luck, I found a machine shop in Weston, near where Boots was staying, that stayed open & machined a brass bush to do the job immediately, for $50. Talk about luck.
So next morning 8 am back to Humptys, put it all back together without delaying his departure too much.
Thanks Pete & Denise for all your help.
Off to Kurri, picked up Boots & Chymiera, then off to Coledale. Left Kurri about 11 am.
Other than a few problems with the Dodge in the heat ( not running real good), we got to Coledale a bit late, but in one piece.
Got some great details on Sunliner independent suspension works, but they are on the camera with Boots.
On the way home the pressure pipe on the power steering pump cracked, so I drove it home without steering boost. That tested my shouders out , but again made it home safe.
Pulled up & started unloading the van, & the left hand tyre went flat.
Not my best ever trip regarding mechanical problems, but a fantastic time & great tour with a great bunch of friends.
Its all fun

Glad to read that you did get it sorted and had a good weekend. It can be very off putting when things go wrong in like that.

Hi Reddo & bobt,
I just put most of my misfortune down to the joys of travelling in old cars & vans.
We know when we use them that occassionly they break.
The condition of roads that cause breakages is another matter.
Potholes are always around on badly maintained roads, & are the responsibility of those that get paid to maintain them, & then fail to do so. Its either the Local Council or the RTA that is responsible, & you cant get any satisfaction out of either of that lot.

Ki Ken & Judy,
That trip down the Murray would have been great. Theres some lovely towns & spots along the Murray.
We lived at Albury in another lifetime, & spent a lot of time exploring the upper end from Albury east. It brings back some great memories.
I bought some Lotto tickets intead of lottery, but my usual luck has prevailed.
When I got home, I found a large tree had fallen where Daggsey & Carrots had been camped. It probably would have hit the back of their van. They obviously were meant to move on when they did, but its real quiet here on my own.
