I have finally sold my 1982 model van and have now gone totally vintage with the purchase of this wonderful 1950's model Propert Folding Caravan. Here are a few photos of it.

Hi Andrew, No it was actually found nearly in this condition. The original owner had it stored in a garage for close to 25 years. The bloke I purchased it from just gave it a repaint, new wheel bearings and re-wired it. I gave it a good spring clean today. And yes the V-dub had no problems towing it the other day. Graeme.

Hi Graeme
Congratulations on acquiring ne of these marvellous vans. The number before the clearly visible 62, is it a 4? If so it makes it a vary early van - bult in 1954. Looks very well kept too. Does it have the water tank somewhere too? I notice that the power inlet is in a different spot to the usual. It is normally in a little box, on the lower driver's side, with the wiring going into the front driver side lower floor cabinet. This avoided having to run the wiring around the van so much and avoided the situation you have there, where the 240 wiring gets bent whenever you open or close the van.
Always interesting how these vans are the same, but have their own little differences about them. For examply, the locking latch handle is on the side of the outer shell, whilst most are on the rear section. A bit hard to see properly, but has the drawbar been extended? - looks like you can open the van whilst attached to the vehicle, which makes it so much easier.
I notice that the old Vdubs were the tow vehicle of choice with a few of the early Propert owners, and your newer one should have no trouble pulling it.
Good luck and have fun!!
Ray

G'day Graeme, That's a nice looking Propert you've got there. The previous owner certainly tidied it up very nicely, and it now looks very presentable. It's good to know that it's been passed on to somebody who will appreciate it and enjoy using it as well. Like the rego plates and the forum handle - TL6367! Congratulations on joining the V V crew! Don Ricardo

Ray Thanks for your comments Ray. No there doesn't appear to be a 4 before the 62 and also no water tank. The previous owner re-wired the van and put a complete new board in. I don't think the draw bar has been extended as I can't open the van whilst it's attached to my Beetle. I'm sure my 2003 Beetle won't have any troubles towing the Propert but my 1959 one might as it only has an 1,100 motor. I look forward to many holidays in it. Regards, Graeme.

Don Ricardo Hi Don, Yes I'm very happy with my little Propert! ;D The rego plate number TL.6367 was actually first issued back in May, 1951 to a Government DRT&T bus. The bus was a 1937 model AEC Regal 0662 single deck (registered as m/o.1445). In 1951 the bus was withdrawn from traffic but was then converted for further use as a perway trailer thus being re-registered on the trailer plate. The bus (trailer) was finally deregistered in 1959 and scrapped. The TL plate was returned to the registry.
