G'day everyone, I was checking out Ebay looking for Austin125's item about the Mt Gambier get together when I came across this ad for a Gason caravan: cgi.ebay.com.au/Vintage-Gason-Caravan-1950s-Excellent-Original-Cond_W0QQitemZ110149463925QQihZ001QQcategoryZ32633QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD7VQQcmdZViewItemI don't recall seeing a Gason van on the forum before, so they may now be quite rare. They were made by an engineering firm in Ararat (Victoria), which now makes farm equipment, etc. (If there any farmers around they probably have heard of Gason tractor cabs, etc.) The firm is now run by Les Gason who I have regular contact with through work. From what I've heard from Les, the Gason vans were not made in any numbers - more built to order I think. I might see if he can provide some info for the forum. This van looks in pretty good nick from the photos, so if somebody is looking for something a bit different, this may be it. (For those of you who remember my tall tale about the caravan from Broken Hill and are wondering if I am pulling your leg again, I give you my word that the above info is genuine.)Regards, Don Ricardo

Don, Thanks for that extra info on the Gason, and look forward to seeing any extra information Les Gason can provide. I put that eBay link in the "for sale" a few days ago hoping somebody from this forum would buy it just so we could get a photo of the tow coupling in our "tow coupling" thread , ask Les where they got that coupling from, and you could also ask him why they put the water tank down near the floor ;D It does look like a nice interesting van, not much interest in it on eBay yet Cobber.

If it was built in Ararat, was it made from the wood from the Ark ;D ;D ;D Wonder if Cobber can enlighten us - or were you too young then, Cobber? ? Ray

Hope it doesn't just end up out in the weather being used for portable club rooms somewhere. It's too good for that!! On the other hand maybe somebody's setting up a tennis tournament for Vintage Vanners If so we'll have to take them to court ;D or take Reddo along to make a 'racquet' ;D ;D I'll stop now...

Not knowing if the “Gason” was bought by a contributor to this forum I thought it would be good to add a photo of it to this discussion so that when Don adds more information about it we will know what it looks like. Actually... there should be a place on this forum to place photos of unique Vintage Caravans we see that are not owned by “members”... or is that what “memorabilia” is for Cobber.

Hi Cobber (and everyone),
I haven't been able to talk to Les Gason yet. He's away for a few weeks and won't be back until early August. I'm due to attend a conference he'll also be at during the second weekend in August, so I'm hoping to be able to interrogate him about his caravans then!
