Caravan World, August 2007 has an article by Susan & Keith Hall about a bloke who became so obsessed with vintage caravans that he started a web site for like minded people to talk about their hobby, and dreams about starting a vintage caravan museum..... must be some kind of nut ;D Cobber.

Yo Cobber I was sorta wandering the other day if this "nut" still exists? Havent heard from him for a while. Probably cant get a word in with all this east coast dribble going on. A caravan museum.... cool Full of dinosaurs Bondasaurus rex Fibregross maximus allodactil Sounds way to scarey to run a school excursion through there On the seriuos side. It seems like every edition of whatever vanning magazine lately has a story on vintage vans. this has got to be good for our hobby eh ;D Reddo

Just read the article (and had a gander at the pics). Nice work again Mark! Certainly seem to be getting lots of exposure everywhere for Vintage Vans lately. It reall is great that our hobby (and love?passion?obsession?addiction?illness?) is getting popular with so many people everywhere, except for one drawback, in becoming more popular it is also becoming more expensive . Oh well, still love the way that people will stop to look at a $1000 worth of VV, but no-one really gives a rats about $50K worth of modern stuff ;D. Maybe becoz it is plastic not timber, or tin, or, yeh ok, Fibre-class. Cheers, Tinnie

Got my copy of Caravan World and loved the article. It was also fantastic to see a few more photos of two of Mark's vans. Looking forward to seeing an expose on the four Dons one day... Great to see Mark's work in establishing the website and forum recognised...and for infecting so many with "V V-itis". Last count 622 plus lots of regular visitors. I hear that the World Health Organisation has set up a taskforce to investigate this new disease afflicting so many Australians. They are quite concerned that it has jumped the ocean and has now shown up amongst a few people in the UK as well (hello Cornish Lass and Brian!) Sorry, Mark a bit of East coast dribble ;D ;D ;D. But we all have a lots to thank you for - and we do wholeheartedly. Don Ricardo

Hi Don R, just a little bit of trivia, but did you see the picture of the DON being towed by the FX Holden in the July edition of Caravan World? Or has somebody already mentioned it? Quite a nice photo all the same.

Hi Exocet,
Thanks for the 'heads up'. I checked around a couple of my local newsagents and found one that hadn't returned his July Caravan Worlds to the publisher. Eureka!
Great photo of a nice little Don 100 model.
Regards,
Don Ricardo

OK Mark, you persuaded me ;D ;D I should have known that the combination of a Don with an FX would get you intrigued!! Taken from Caravan World, July 2007, p. 73I was interested in Jim Stirling's comment about his mother's ability to come up with a Sunday roast. It reminded me of the times when I was a kid and we took our Don down to Torquay or Barwon Heads, near Geelong where my father was born. My dad's family would all visit us in the van - sometimes in great numbers - and my mother would create a 2 or 3 course meal for everybody using our little petrol stove in the van. No BBQ's at the camping ground or nearby take-aways in those days. I still don't know how she did it... Don Ricardo (Regarding the photo, given that this is out of a recent magazine, I'm not sure whether there are copyright issues. However it is permissable to take a copy of a small part of a publication for private research purposes, and I guess that's what we're involved in. Besides I hope that Caravan World will be willing to cut us a bit of slack if I mention what a fine magazine they produce which includes information of interest to both modern van types as well as vintage vanners. Well worth buying if you're interested in caravans.)
