Hi Guys,
Apologies in advance if this question has been posted before. Now we are well into Winter, i really need to get off my backside and get a caravan cover for the Franklin.... Its a plan B i know as ideally a shed to put it in would be handy!
Anyway, just thought i would test the waters to see if any of you have had a good experience with any brands/types in particular before i get my hands on one.
Cheers J-Rod

Hi Jrod. Yup.. topic has been bounced around the forum before but it doesnt hurt toi ask anyway. Problem with covers is they chaff away at the paint alloy or fibereglass with wind causing them to slip around a bit. Also they tend to let moisture through and then hold it there on the body of the van. Can only serve to corrode and or cause mildew. some covers are better than others but the best is a shed or carport. Fibreglass owners will boast that it isnt necessary to protect f/glass vans from the elements but to be honest i reckon anything that is sheltered is going to survive better than something left out in the weather of wrapped up in a dodgey van cover. You have to remember it isnt just wet weather you need to protect your treasure from. Heat and pollution/ fallout can cause havoc as well. Just one mans 2 bobs worth.. others will reply "for and against" as well Reddo

Hey Jrod, Reddo is right the best option is a bl###y big shed. However, since we are not all rich; depending on your location / exposure to wind etc (I know the wife reckons there's a fair bit of wind round our place) one of those portable carports could be the go. Just use some extra ropes to be on the safe side. As for the previous topic, Reddo should know, he started it ;D vintagecaravans.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=technicalstuffboard&action=display&thread=1161920991Good luck with what ever you decide, me I am trying to find the $ (or scrounge the materials to put an extra bay on my carport and then enclose it. Cheers, Tinnie

Reddo/Tinnie, Thanks for the info. My old mans van has been kept under cover for years, and it has definitely taken its toll. Didn't think of the portable carport so will have to give that a look. Or, considering it is kept alongside my Dad's van at his place, maybe i should convince him to put up a carport for his, and tell him he may as well cover mine while he is at it! Oh, and Reddo if you could ever find it in your heart to store an Alli along side your timber in the shed of invention, let me know and i;ll give you a pint a week of Newcastle's finest for your troubles! & Tinnie a Pale Ale or 24 if you would be the Foster home for the Franklin! ;D ;D Thanks again guys, J-Rod!
