Hi all, I mentioned in another thread (Lady Madonnas Travels) that I had fitted electric brakes, primarily because the over-riders were just not doing the job. I purchased the hubs, drums and electrics from a company recommended by Tickos after a discussion at Munmorah. Thanks Tickos for putting me on to a supplier. However, after fitting all of the above (other than the electrics) myself in Taree, we travelled to Tamworth. I followed the bedding-in instructions, but seemed to have trouble setting the controller to an acceptable position. Put your foot on the brake, and the van would swerve violently, in fact dangerously if an emergency situation had arisen . Had the problem sorted today by a brake shop in Tamworth.......it appears (if you go by what they told me) that invariably all new brake drums are out of round (regardless of brand) and they machine them as a matter of course. Took "Lady Madonna" for a brake test afterwards and she actually now pulls up in a straight line ;D ;D ;D Could have put this thread under technical, but felt that it was a safety issue and needed to be highlighted, Cheers Daggsey

hi daggsey'
I reckon thats pretty good advice. I never thought about untill you mentioned it.
My van I'm rebuilding will be towed to the local Brake Shop to get the hard lines, rubber hoses & new master cylinder fitted for my new axle, after I get it roadworthy enough to tow. I'll get them to check the new brakes at the same time, & let you know how good they were.

Thanks, Daggsey, I will consider what you have said, I have electric brakes on the palace, but i haven't connected them yet & won't until I get the 49 Ford finished. Stops OK with the manual brakes & Fairlane.

Hi all, Had another talk today with the brake man in Tamworth........his general view is that hubs for trailers, horse floats, caravans etc are not manufactured to the same standard as a car. He has had many owners of modern vans that are fitted with electric brakes, call in on their way from Brisbane/Sydney because they complain about van swaying when they brake. Funnily enough, Tamworth is about half way between the two. Daggsey
