Hi Sutcac & others,
Well it wasn't the best year I've had up there. But its over, & I've sorta forgotten the problems I had , because it was a lotta fun in many ways.
But firstly, good on you Leanne for your award as top closed. Awards at Wintersun are very difficult to get. I dont think I got to see your coupe, but I did look for it as I love 36 5 windows.
We ended up at the Pyramid caravan park on Kennedy Drive, as we managed to get a cabin for my family asd well as a van site for us. Ended up 5 sites down from Sugarshack.
Had a great run up, & cruised around Friday, looked like being a great weekend.
Went in Friday night cruise, & after 4 laps, punching the rod up the hillclimb part & having a lot of fun, I went to stop in a quiet bit with no traffic. But the brake pedal went to the floor. pretty scarey. So I parked it, then watched the parade. I had to drive the 5 or so Km back to the park, with NO brakes at all. luckily the rod has a manual & lots of compression. By driving about 20 Kph & turning it off in gear, I made it home OK.
Had a look around the brake system Sat morning early, but could only put it down to a blown brake master cylinder. Seeing the steering column has to be dropped out of the way to get to the master cylinder, & after talking to my brake repairer who told me it would be unlikely I could find a replacement cylinder on along weekend,I rang NRMA premium care, & took the rod back to Ballina & dropped it at the brake specialist.
So I drove back in Boots car, intending to go & look at Wintersun.
Bugger me, but as I pulled up at the van park, Brian & Sandra ( Nobles Garage from WA) were there. so we ended up at Sugarshack's van, having a couple of ales with Wayne & Sharon, listening to all sorts of music.
The scarey part of the exercise is that I got a phone call from the brake guy on Tuesday early, telling the rod was fixed. It turned out to be the pin holding the brake pushrod to the pedal had fallen out. We believe it had to be that when the cylinder was replaced about 5 years ago, the mechanic didn't put the circlip/split pin back in place properly.
So I've been driving around all this time, with a potential failure, & it fell out out in a safe location with no damage happening.
Maybe someone out there likes me after all.

Hi Sooty and Joocey Love the old purple truck what a great campa.......How would that look coming down Bulli Pass out of control. Also the wagon and timber boat veeerrrryyyyy cooool. Hey Dennis.. i think they call that brake pin the "Jesus"pedal pin. Its the first words uttered when the pedal goes to the floor . Its brother is the "Jesus nut".He lives behind the horn button and holds.the steering wheel on. Not to be confused with his cousin that is employed to hold the pitman arm on the steering box..... all have the same affect when they decide to "Take the day off"and fail .......all tend to make you look to the sky and say "Jesus.. i'm in trouble now" Glad to hear all is well with old henry again..... could have been disasterous down the main drag..... a bindgle up the bum of anopther big bucks rod would be very embarassing and take years to wipe from your reputation.. or worse still ya couold have hit a bystanding yobbo and bought the whole rod scene into the medias grasp... very lucky it happened where it did ol' mate. It could happen to anyone, in any type of car rod, restored ,at any time. We put a lot of faith in clips etc and if not seated properly by the installer it can happen. Alls well that ends well. Nobles garage and the sugarshacks...for a drink... you where lucky to get out alive Reddo
