The vin number doesn't relate to known methods of dating Sunliners, but you have a Bundaberg assembled Sunliner. What is the interior roof lined with, are your cupboards painted or have a papery imitation woodgrain?

Upon further chassis scraping l have revealed the numbers 6109 550183 It also has moulded interior panels , the fridge has a name which appears to be SILO ,the stove ( two burner plus grill )has the brand name SHIELDS JETFLAME. Chassis is round tube ladder construction with coil over shocks running FJ wheel bearings, inside dimensions are 12ft6 front window to back window and 6ft 10 at the widest inside, 15ft6 from front point of tow hitch to back of van , lastly all cupboard doors have been painted several times but appear to have been multicoloured pastel tones the table top has a yellow weaved bamboo mat appearence which matches the bench and slideout cooker cover ,has also had many exterior coats of paint hard to know what original colours were . hope this peaks your intrest Humpty cheers Ralph

Too easy, going off the first numbers, your van is 1961 model made in September. e.g. ....61(1961) 09 (September). This applies to all Sunliners. The laminex in " basket weave" is the go in the Sunliners and pastel colours on the cupboards was also the in thing then. Our Sunliner has the original blue basket weave table and bench tops. Photos would be good to see please. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the kind words!! yes it was Paula's van and it was quite an adventure getting it from Taree back to the Sunshinecoast, In the words of Kenny Rodgers, You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel!!!! just a few scuffs nothing major, new tires new bearings and we were on our way home. Thanks to Taree Mechanical who went out of their way to help two forlorn Queenslanders. Once that was done and dusted we were off ( not with out checking the wheel nuts every 20ks for the first 100ks paranoia has a habit of setting in ) plain sailing after that it tows beautifully at a 100kph , no sway no twitching and pulls up straight, considering it has no brakes !! this ones definitely a keeper !! The plan is to restore it to as original as possible, and now that weve worked out Photobucket this should help to make any questions a lot easier to explain! So for now its out with paint stripper and sand paper, and try to establish what the original colour scheme was?? cheers Ralph & Belinda

Hi R & B I am no expert when it comes to fibreglass vans . Everyone will tell you ( if you havent figured it out for yourselves already) i love old bondwood vans ;D. However i read that you plan to sand the "paint" off your sunliner. Just a word of warning. dont go too harsh on the coating of your van. its not hard to go through the skin and damage the matting underneath. JBJ, Humpty, Spyder, Boblor or Someone will come on here that loves the fobbergross vans and explain to you better what i am warning you about. Just felt duty bound to let you know before you attack the van and do irepairable damage to the outer skin.. Glad to hear you got home in one piece after your earlier dramas with the wheel. Look forward to seeing photos of your resto work... Reddo

..........................just slipped round to Ralphy's place and checked out the Sunliner. ........what a pearler!. ..........very original l'l Sunny with a couple of unique features like wind out rear window and rear sunvisor /awning. .............Ralph's in complete control as far as i could see......hastening slowly ....sneakin up on the old paint with some eco friendly paint stripper, and trusty scraper. ......................Discussed a few things ,,,,,,,,and Ralph and Belinda are going to try to keep the old girl as original as possible. ............Being Ford orientated could see an XL wagon or similar, as the next project as a tow car! .......couldn't help but notice the big block Mustang fastback hiding in the garage though !!!! this little sunny's gunna come up a treat.........photobucket has been mastered and the guys will keep us posted re progress.........I for one look forward to the pics! Cheers , Sutcac

Hey Ralphy and Belinda, Nice van and welcome to Sunnyland and the forum ! Couldn't help but notice the awning above the rear window and would love to drop in some time to view. Any possibility of doing this ?- I live in Murrumba Downs and as an avid surfer am a very regular visitor to the sunny coast ! Regards, Swellwillys

SUNLINER OWNERS 50YEARS YOUNG 1958------2008
A fifty year celebration is to be planned for Sunliners at Foster where they were first made The Great Lakes Council is very happy for us to be involved with there Foreshore Festival which will be held in the park on 4th 5th October. They plan to have stalls, bands, etc and for us to have some media coverage, The Council would like to have some numbers or who might be interested as they may be able to help with some accommodation.
If any Sunliner people are interested please contact John. send a PM email spyder@tsn.cc phone 0247218451
