Hi Cobber and Ray
Thanks for the kind words...
Well here it is post number 1000 or ...... 2807 if you want to include the 1807 i left behind when i spat the dumb a while back.
Dunno whether i am worthy of any accolades for reaching the big 1000 . I see posts as being treated the same as birthdays when ya get into your senior years. Ya know they are steadily building up , but you choose to ignore them
.
I cant remember exactly when i joined up the first time..
... i think it was around October 2004..may have been later ...
. Perhaps with cobbers expertise as a research and statistical expert he can dig up my first post.
I think there was around 25 to 30 of us on the forum back then... Mark, Ditzy, Will and Lynn, Trev and carrots, loveshack, brad and gemma, surferboy, snail, was some i remember from the west coast.. East coast
Cobber was here before me by a few months i think, MRFJ55, Belinda, where around back then too.... Too many posts and good times under the bridge to acknowledge all of the
"Class of 2004"
My first major run with the van mob was to Coledale...October 2005 ..it was the only event on the east coast ....I think Maurie and Belinda where the instigaters of that first run. By that stage JBJ, Humpty, spyder, Tickos, Carapark and a few others had signed up and we had a ball.
;D
There has been countless runs and events on either side of the continent since then. Each event has drawn out a few new starters and we have steadily grown in numbers. I cant think of anyone who has attended a vintage van getogether that has said that they wouldnt be coming back... everyone leaves with great memorys of go times and great friendships being forged.
There has been countless "debates"on the forum over what is considered the best type/style of van, the best towcar car, etc ,etc. in the end we all choose to "agree to disagree" and move forward. The forum has been a great source of information for people like ourselves that have come across it while searching for info . Most of us have found this site after first buying a van as a bit of a joke and then slowly but surely become addicted to the hobby to the point of obssession / addiction ( understatement in some cases
)
So whats in the pipeline for the future... I currently have "Mildred" in the shed as an ongoing project. Hope to have her all dressed up for the East coast tour this year. The Sloper Chev breathed its first breath the other day and i promptly stuck the missus in the car and done a lap around the neighbourhood. Bit scarey with only the handbrake for stoppers........ again i would like to think it will be fit enough to tow mildred on the tour....
All takes time and money. Plenty of the first , none of the latter. On top of all that I have just bought Wills "DC3TD" it will be unloaded in sydney in a few weeks time.
Matilda sits in the carport screaming for a little bit of TLC.
So ...my future involvement in the vintage van movement looks to be ongoing for at least the rest of this year.
....... Sorry Cobber .. in know that is not what you where hoping ta hear... but ya gunna havta just put up with me for a while yet..... You might get lucky ... I continue to mess with volatile substances like fobbergross down in the shed of invention.. You can all live in hope that i might blow myself off the face of the earth....
;D
Sorry about the dribble guys... Its just me.........I know it can be annoying but to me its the grease betwen the gears that keeps the wheels turning on the forum at times when it seems we are grinding to a halt....... If the airways remain busy i can wind the "dribble wick" back a bit and let yas all go hammer and tongs .
3000 posts
... yup.. sometime next week i reckon ;D ;D ;D
