Hi Harriet here, we are going away for a few days on our maiden run, and tried to arrange Insurance cover for me, every insurance company say I am too old to insure, and so we are wondering if anybody in South Australia has had any trouble. Apparently because I am more than 30 years old they say they will not cover me. If you have a van over 30 years and live is S A and have insurance could you let us know the company. thanks a million Harriet

Hello Harriet,
when I went to get van insurance for our van , tried some insurance companies ones that were for caravans and had same problem, we eventualy got ours through AAMI ( we have our car insuranced with them), also try Shannons Classic Car Insurance they will insure vintage van, hope this helps, best of luck.

hi Harriett,
Shannons current policy as of several months back was no vans. I have 2 cars insured with them, but still no deal.
But we insured our Sunliner thru AAMI for $12500 without any problems.
They were the only ones I could find that would cover old vans.

Hi Harriet, A few of us have been on the V V insurance round-a-bout. As you've discovered, some insurers won't insure anything over 30 years old, while others will insure old vans but only for 'book value' not 'agreed value', and fortunately some are more helpful. There's a thread on V V insurance which may help you (or may not ;D): vintagecaravans.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=108&page=2Our van is insured with GIO who we found fall into the helpful category. Hope the maiden run goes exceptionally smoothly and you all have great fun. Good luck with the insurance. Don Ricardo

Howdy My van is currently insured with a mob called CIL Insurance, part of the Vero Insurance group (whever they are). This was who insured it when I purchased it from a van yard in Adel, before I even tidied it up. Also, I have my FX, EJ and modern all with Shannons and am currently holding a Shannons quote for my van, listed as a 1959 Sportline van, with an agreed value. Existing policy comes due in July, so will keep you posted when I try and switch it. Cheers Urkel

Harriet again thanks for all your replies, I tried CIL Insurance yesterday at the suggestion of the Insurance Ombudsman, they said no also that was after trying several insurers including APIA who carry our car house and contents. They were the ones that told me to ring the Ombudsman and he would know what if any companies would cover us. Unfortunately CIL would only cover us if we had it on site permanently.

We just bought a 1967 van and I insured it with SGIC. There never seemed to be a question of the age. I told them the year and the girl just commented that it must be cute.
