Hi I have just purchased a 12' 6", Viscount Valiant Alumvan - chassis C607 - not far from home. This is the second Viscount I have found, not far from home. I had spotted the van about 12 months ago, on my way to and from my home in Batlow to the farm at Mannus. I decided to approach the owner and ask if they would be interested in selling. Much to my surprise, she said yes on my first silly offer and a deal was made. I couldn't believe it. Another project is all I need at the moment, but it was too good a van to be left sitting under a tree. It was crying out to be rescued. I have since found out who the original owners were. The van had been well looked after, cared for and shedded for most of it's life, all bar for the last few years. It came with the original full annex, wooden poles and instruction manual, all in great condition. Instruction manual for the fridge. Spare tyre with original holden hubcap. Winder for the back stabilizer legs. Tow hitch ball mount and two sway/stabilizer bars. Original settee cushions. In great condition. Front window protector. The Valiant logo stickers are still intact on the front and rear of the van. Also the makers stickers are still on the interior hand pump, stove and on the aluminium window frames. All the interior lights and fridge work. Just needs a fresh coat of paint and new curtains made on the inside. I need to replace 3 cracked windows and replace all the window rubbers. All underneath looks good. Not much surface rust at all. Springs are all good. Towed really well on the way home to it's storage shed, where I will get it ready for rego. The A frame/draw bar had been extended at some stage, so the chassis number was covered over. All that you could see was the last number. So the other half (Paul) and I, unbolted the part that was covering the chassis number. I was stoked to see the original welded chassis number, C607. I took some photos of the chassis number and we checked all the bolts etc. that we had taken out. All looked in pretty good condition. Paul is a farmer and works on machinery all the time, so it was good to get his opinion on the condition of everything. So now hopefully on this forum, someone can help to date the year of this van. The rego papers states it's a 1972 Viscount, but Paul knew the original owners of the van and he thinks that's the year it was originally registered. The chassis/vin numbers on the rego papers have been made up as well. Completely different than what's on the draw bar. PS: This is the first time I have used Postimage. Hope the photo's come through. Hi Lisa, Wow what a great find. This looks like a great little van. How lucky are you. Luv it all. Love the floor tiles, the seat cushions, it all looks like its in great condition. Congrats x Hi wildbrumby I would love to all those photos. Unfortunately they are unable on the forum. Probably due to photobucket etc. Can you please repost or replace them? Much appreciated. Kerri

Hey Kerri, if you want to see the pics- right click, open image in new tab, in the address bar at the very top replace the org with cc & hit return & presto it will appear. Tedious, I know but I'm sure lots of folks won't be bothered to come back & re do their all their photos. I have started to do mine & it is painful.!

Hi all, today I picked up our first van. Needs some work but looks to be a good base and some work has been done already. Does anyone have an idea of what year this Valiant van would be chassis number C698?
I’ll add some pictures when I figure that part out. (I’ve always used photo bucket previously)

Based on number alone, I'd say approx 1967 but would love to see a photo to confirm. Have a look at this thread for posting photos

Thanks danjeffery, paintwork looks to agree with '67 also. Are you able to tell if the frame is timber or aluminium? (screws or rivets holding cladding on?)

Aluminum frame. And has rivets. But not certain if they are original or not. And thanks for all your help!

Hi Danjeffrey,
That's an interesting looking Valiant. Based on the window layout, I presume it has bunks at the rear?

It currently doesn’t have bunks but I’d say it would have once upon a time.

Would any one have a rear number plate bracket/ mount? My van doesn’t have one and I’d like to put one back on. Also does any one have a picture of a standardish rear tail light setup and number plate setup?

Thanks! My van is a little later, I think the tail light run more horizontal. And the number plate bit is a different shape. (I can see an outlineish of what ever is there) But yep, expect them to be much the same kind of thing This is the back of my van flic.kr/p/2d3HRdC

Just re-posting - need one of these. Hi Main Burner part needed out of a Polar fridge. The photos show the whole burner, but as you can see, it's the ceramic piece that sits on top that is broken, but I'll buy the whole part if anyone has one. Cheers wildbrumby

Hi Rattles Unfortunately the other piece is missing. If I don't find the part I'm looking for, then I will get the broken part made up. So let's hope someone on the forum may have an old Polar fridge sitting in their shed, or know of someone who has one. Can only hope. Thanks for giving me the link to the high temp adhesive. cheers wildbrumby

I can't get any pics at the moment but will try to post some in the next couple of weeks. Also any ideas what sort of board was used on the ceiling? Ours is some sort particle type board just not sure what. Thanks in Advance

Hi notsure, I'd love to see a photo to confirm but your number suggests she's a 1966 Valiant. It's not uncommon for the wrong date to be found on rego papers especially if it's been unregistered for a period of time, back then no proof of year was required and owners could guess if they didn't know, I believe they can still guess now with the old vans. Cheers Shelley

Hi Shelley, Thats sort of the date range I was thinking too from looking at the other posts. I will give it a go at posting a pic (haven't got any of the interior at the moment).] Thanks Hi notsure, I'd love to see a photo to confirm but your number suggests she's a 1966 Valiant. Thanks for posting the photos, they were what I was hoping for with that number. If you get a chance and the interior is still intact and original, please have a scrounge around for any dates written anywhere, they've been found under the table, under drawers (in very small handwriting) and a few other places. We have very few confirmed dates for the Valiants, we're following that they used the same flashing as on the Viscounts and Ambassadors at the same time.

Hi Shelley, Okay will do, most of the cabinetry is the original and convertible table/bed near the door is original too. I thing the only think not original is the back bed which was rebuilt in 2006. So will have a scrounge around and see what I can find. Thanks again

I'm a new member of the forum and I am currently in the process of collecting all the bits and pieces that I will need to do a full restoration of our old 1964/65 Viscount Valiant Caravan with chassis number B1740 which has been in our family since being bought new in Brisbane, QLD.
I would like to gather feedback from the forum members with regards to some proposed new 'Valiant' Decals and also hopefully finding better photos of any surviving original 'Valiant' caravan Decal Stickers that are still in good condition, I have measured the worn out ones on our van plus I have gathered many images from the internet as well as from this forum.
I have accurately drawn up the geometry of the Decal Stickers in AutoCAD using the dimensions taken off our van and I have based the colours on our van's sticker marked as No. 19 (on the Flickr images) plus No.18 which is another van's sticker which fortunately is in better condition than ours, images of the preliminary 'Valiant' Decal artwork are in the Flickr album via the following link:
flic.kr/s/aHsmBTkPCA
Please note that the Lion in 'passant guardant' pose (lion on three legs looking at the viewer) needs a bit more work to make it accurately match the original and please also note that at this stage I am unsure as to the exact colour used on the shield background and some of the border colours which is why I have presented such a variety of them for review and feedback. Some of them may also have been transparent?
There appears to have been a change in either the printing company used, the printing process or the pigment used on the stickers used on the vans after 1966 (colour flashes on side walls models), as there is a lot more yellow showing on the surviving example images that I have gathered compared to the earlier 1964/65 images (coloured flat panel band between the windows models) which show mostly blue and some red but no yellow or other surviving colours.
There also appears to be a variety of sticker styles used with some 'full scroll' stickers used with the additional 'ALUMVAN' word added to the lower half of the scroll while most only had the upper portion of the scroll and simply had an additional smaller sticker added under with either the word 'ALUMVAN' or a plain yellow strip.
It is quite possible that the different 'Viscount' factories used different printing companies, etc, i.e. it may be that there was possibly more than one style and colour scheme used for the stickers in the same time period.
My goal is to have accurate reproduction stickers created for the 1964 to 1970 time period, complete with what appears to be a metallic foil inlay with a fine hexagonal embossed pattern pressed into most of the blue background of the scrolls.
Note: The existing available 'RV Sticker' Decals are marked as Number 1 and 2, while Numbers 3 to 8 and 17 to 20 are some of the existing images used for reference.
Which of the preliminary new decal numbers do you think best matches the original ones installed on your van?
Regards,
Phil Nunn
