Hi Scotty47, Welcome to the forum, and thanks for telling us about your Valiant. Based on the serial number of B187, 1962 sounds right, but some photos will enable us to confirm that. One of the other features to look at for dating purposes is the profile of the aluminium cladding. Have you found the thread which provides info on how to post photos on the forum? If not, you can find it by clicking on this link. It will be great to see some pics of your van and what you've done with your renovation. Don Ricardo

Hi scotty47I have a Viscount with B177. We worked it out to be a 1963. Have a look at my thread. See if it helps. Kerri

Hi Kerri, Wow, your van and Scotty47's van are only 10 apart! They might even have been in the factory or the sales yard together. It will be interesting to see what cladding Scotty47's van has. You'd think it would be the 'American ribbed' cladding yours has, which would suggest 1963, but we'll see. Don Ricardo

Hi all, The conversation with Kerri above reminded me that her Valiant, serial number B177 and shown below, is the earliest example we know of a Valiant van clad with the 'American-styled ribbed' cladding which was apparently introduced early in 1963: Further photos of the van and the story of its restoration can be found here. Ok scotty47 , this is way too cool. I have the exact same colour around the windows, just hidden under that stupid brown. But mine also has a stripe at the bottom of the caravan. I found the extra stripe when I was paint stripping. I also have the 'Royale' bit on the decal. Kerri PS: This is the extra stripe I was talking about: Not sure how to put a link to a post in here. Anyway, it's on page 3 of this thread. The one with the pink stripe and the flamingo.

Hi I have just purchased a 12' 6", Viscount Valiant Alumvan - chassis C607 - not far from home. This is the second Viscount I have found, not far from home. I had spotted the van about 12 months ago, on my way to and from my home in Batlow to the farm at Mannus. I decided to approach the owner and ask if they would be interested in selling. Much to my surprise, she said yes on my first silly offer and a deal was made. I couldn't believe it. Another project is all I need at the moment, but it was too good a van to be left sitting under a tree. It was crying out to be rescued. I have since found out who the original owners were. The van had been well looked after, cared for and shedded for most of it's life, all bar for the last few years. It came with the original full annex, wooden poles and instruction manual, all in great condition. Instruction manual for the fridge. Spare tyre with original holden hubcap. Winder for the back stabilizer legs. Tow hitch ball mount and two sway/stabilizer bars. Original settee cushions. In great condition. Front window protector. The Valiant logo stickers are still intact on the front and rear of the van. Also the makers stickers are still on the interior hand pump, stove and on the aluminium window frames. All the interior lights and fridge work. Just needs a fresh coat of paint and new curtains made on the inside. I need to replace 3 cracked windows and replace all the window rubbers. All underneath looks good. Not much surface rust at all. Springs are all good. Towed really well on the way home to it's storage shed, where I will get it ready for rego. The A frame/draw bar had been extended at some stage, so the chassis number was covered over. All that you could see was the last number. So the other half (Paul) and I, unbolted the part that was covering the chassis number. I was stoked to see the original welded chassis number, C607. I took some photos of the chassis number and we checked all the bolts etc. that we had taken out. All looked in pretty good condition. Paul is a farmer and works on machinery all the time, so it was good to get his opinion on the condition of everything. So now hopefully on this forum, someone can help to date the year of this van. The rego papers states it's a 1972 Viscount, but Paul knew the original owners of the van and he thinks that's the year it was originally registered. The chassis/vin numbers on the rego papers have been made up as well. Completely different than what's on the draw bar. PS: This is the first time I have used Postimage. Hope the photo's come through.

What a great score! Paintwork and numbers suggest late '66, early '67. Any chance there's a date written under your table?

Hi Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. I thought it may have been the years you have quoted. Nothing under the table. Inside all of the cupboard doors and drawers are marked from 1, 2, 3 etc. Only other number is 9591 under the wardrobe drawer and under the cutlery drawer.

Just an update We finished the front and back with the bendy ply. We added a new floor and there is ply at the back of where the kitchen will be. Next, we do the cupboards, finish adding ply around the walls and around the back window. This is what it looked like: 20171229_133918 by Kerri Insley, on Flickr 20171229_133938 by Kerri Insley, on Flickr This is what it now looks like: 20180101_160407 by Kerri Insley, on Flickr

This is just to let you know the photos posted by Franklin1 that you referred to above were collected by him from Ebuy back in early 2009 or before, and weren't of a van he owned, so the photos that are posted are most probably all that he had. Based on the serial number, it sounds like your Valiant is a 1965 model. Does that fit with what you know about it? It will be great to see some photos of your van once you get it home. There are instructions on how to post photos in the 'Forum Guidelines & Helpful Hints' section of the forum. But if that tries your patience too much, you're welcome to email some photos to me and I'll post them for you. You can email me at caravanhistory@gmail.com Don Ricardo

Hi Eagleeyedpctek,
Good to hear from you again.
I see that there was a bit of discussion about your van and it's build date higher up this thread in 2015. Just have a look at page 3 of the thread, and you should be able to find it.
As Twocutekelpies has indicated, if you want to post photos on the forum you need to do it via an online photo storage website such as PostImage or Flickr. Or you can do it from your own server if you have one, using the little photo button on the font bar - being a PC tech type person, that might be an option for you? Or alternatively you can email some photos to me, and I'll post them for you - caravanhistory@gmail.com
Unfortunately we can't increase the amount of space for photos as attachments, because we are a community forum and we don't have any source of revenue to be able to pay for additional space. We are stuck with the default 'free space'.

Hi Bluebird
Thank you so much. Yes it was a great find. I wasn't looking for another van, but because it was near to home, I didn't want to see it deteriorate sitting unloved, under a tree, so the rest is history. Has been well looked after and garaged most of it's life. I was happy to get the original settee cushions, floor tiles are in really good nick as well. Won't need much to get it on the road.
cheers:-)
