Hi , I have recently got a viscount which I was told by the person I got it off is a 1983 ( have yet to verify this the plate is a bit mucky ) . It’s around 14 foot I believe , has been repainted outside so I can’t see much identifying words except for where viscount was written before .
It has wires going to the back of the drum brakes , and has a cable handbrake also .
Can anyone please tell me what to expect with the electric braking of that era , I am aware that modern electric brakes require controllers in the tow vehicle , obviously I did not get anything like that with the van ,
So do these old vans require a controller to run ? Or do they work off the brake wire when braking .
It has the big flat plug btw 7 pin I think .
From what I can gather from reading ads of similar vans online , could be around 700 ‘s to 800 ‘s kg unloaded .
In Queensland it says on the rego website that over 750 kg requires brakes .
I had an old York / Millard before this Viscount , a 1977 model and it had the bump stop type brakes , and I have not been able to yet find any information on this electric type .
