Hello everyone, Not sure if this has been covered already but I was wondering what the status quoe was in regards to for example, Moving to Qld and changing the rego to QLD registration. My van has all original from new gas system and appliances. I have been told I am supposed to have a gas compliance certificate in NSW but was sure that this only came into place sometime in the early 70's and was not relevant to my van.

Regardless what state and if it was registered or not getting the caravan registered in Qld, you will need a QLD RWC and Qld Gas Certificate. Other than the appliances all the gas installation will require to bought up to the current Qld gas requirements (regulator, pipework, isolatoin valves etc).

So when my van was made it was compliant to the regulations and standards of the time, now if I decide to go to another State within Australia my van is suddenly expected to comply with new rules? Just doesn't seem to be correct to me. For example: I don't see pre-seatbelt cars having to have seatbelts fitted. Existing electrical installations in old carvans are not required to have RCD protection fitted as both of these examples were compliant at the time of manufacture. Maybe there is something I am missing?

It is what it is. Perhaps double check with Qld Transport.

There is no compliance for electrical when getting a caravan registered in Qld, but if there is any work that is carried out by an electrical contractor the installation will need to bought up to current standards, which would then include the installation of a RCBO. If you check with Qld transport they will tell you it needs a current gas certificate. Check with a licensed gas fitter that works on caravans and they will tell you exactly what the requirements are. I have been through all of this when I bought vintage caravan from Victoria a few years ago and had it registered in Qld.

It can be hypocritical, I sold a camper with a gas stove that didn't have auto gas shutoff, the compliance guy phoned & they said if the unit was manufactured within the last five years it would have to be replaced, as it was seven years old it passed, go figure As stated above talk to a gas guy that does "caravans", they are usually more sympathetic. Cheers Mustang PS: This guy has done several vans for me, in Caloundra, Sunshine gas 0412 116 362
