C E COURTIS & SONS CARAVANSRichardson Street, Katanning WA
The following caravan is one of seven caravans built by C E Courtis & Sons, funeral directors, carpenters and joiners in Katanning in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, south of Perth. This particular caravan was built in 1955 for Stan Filmer, a prominent Katanning businessman. The van is unusual in that it has a sliding door and sliding windows, similar to the South Australian Furness caravans. The caravan has a wooden frame and is clad in Masonite. The van was restored by Tony Camenzuli, and Bert & Angie Hayes, and is on display at Bert’s Garage motor museum at Boyup Brook, Western Australia. It is unknown whether all seven C E Courtis & Sons caravans were built to the same design as the Bert’s Garage van, or whether each was built to an individual design. Special thanks to forum member Aza of Just Retro Caravans for providing the photos and information to be posted on the forum. Don Ricardo
