Thought some of you Holdenites might be interested in seeing how my EWJ looked when I first found her. Hopefully the primer is still good (it's been sitting in the shed for about 3 years). Can't see even the slightest bit of rust coming through after all that time. Thankfully the shed was always closed up, so that the moisture wouldn't come in. Seats are in very good condition, motor re-ringed, brakes re-done, new shockies etc etc. She goes to the spray painter Friday. Will be te same colour as the interior that you can see is already done. Will have white roof. I found out yesterday where old Holdens go to die. There is a fellow not far from here (about 60kms away) who lives on an acreage, and about five acres of the block is covered in Holden car bodies from the first FJ to the mid seventies. He has guaranteed me that whatever part I may be looking for, he can supply. Don't doubt it one bit, going by the number of containers and other storage areas there. Really wish I had my camera with me. Never seen anything like it! Now if only I could find out where old caravans go to die, I'd be right. Cheers Ray

Hi Ray Oooooooooooooo it must be the high speed racing model. Its got an alloy rocker cover. Should work out a cheap tidy up seeing as though you havent got to shell out thousands to put the metal back in where the usual rust is.
Reddo - in desperate need of a FJ towbar. Go and ask the nice man with the Holdens can he help me.

Hey Reddo I'll put the towbar on the shopping list this is slowly getting longer and longer. How urgently do you need it? I've got to find a goosneck for the towbar that was on the ej too. I've still got a fair few bits and pieces of accessories to find, as quite a bit of what is in the boxful of stuff isn't worth putting back onto the car. But I was aware of that! Hope it all does work out. Cheers Ray

Just a little update. Last Friday I took the EJ to Kingaroy for that paint job. As they say **** happens. Scraped the passenger side doors beautifully while unloading by myself. Not too impressed with the panelbeater staff at all. That night had call from said panelbeater. Reckons there is too many rust spots coming through the primer to paint. Insists that the only way he would do the job is to sandblast the whole car to bare metal again . Cost between $5000 and $6000!!!!!!!! Yep, you guessed it. Hired a car trailer again today and brought the thing home in case he started charging rental on storage. Bitten the bullet. Will do the job myself!!! SO WATCH THIS SPACE AND LISTEN FOR THE ********** heading your way. Ray PS ANy help/advice would be appreciated. I even have spare beds!!!!

Ray Bad luck about the unloading mishap. and the rust I assume you have painted lots of cars before but if you need a compressor or gun you are quite welcome to borrow mine for the job. Spray gun that is - not a gun to shoot the panel beater! Maybe its not too late to get an EK. ;D ;D. regards earlee

Ray Old cars dont you just love 'em . remember what i said about not having to shell out thousands to have rust removed ?? Most likely the rust spots are only surface rust under the primer. You would be crazy not to sand the existing primer back and have a good look at what is underneath it. if all else fails you can hook up the car float and head down to my place with $3800 and collect the FB Wagon. complete with towbar!!! Car is still on eBay if ya wanna have a look or email me and i can send you extra photos............... Take three deep breaths and practice a bit of tai Chi mate. Reddo..... have we got a deal for you at "Reddo Motors"

Reddo's Motors. I wonder if they offer a concrete warranty on FBs. You know the type of concrete warranty - as soon as it leaves his concrete driveway the warranty expires! ;D Sorry Reddo - I couldn't resist that one. At least an FB looks like an EK. Earlee. haha.

Hey Reddo, remember I've seen your car in Newcastle. From what I remember, it too would need a fair bit of work as far as rust removal/repaint, so the end result would be the same if not worse than me working on this beast I have here. Have had a good look at it yesterday in the light of day and after cleaning 3 years'dust off. I believe it's fixable. The spots are very minor and those will be well sanded and sealed. Part of the reason the body shop wanted to sandblast etc was because he had been caught once before simply painting a car which he hadn't prepared, and I cost him a mint six months later. Had to sandblast and respray at his own cost. So, I don't blame him. As far as earlee is concerned, Reddo, you have my pertmission to thump him in the ear if you catch up with him before I do on the 18th. The cheeky sod!! Cheers Ray (I won't desert my EJ yet)
