I don't want to overdo posting as can ask this question elsewhere, but this forum seems to be a very reliable source.
I am looking to put on a spare tyre holder on my caravan, see current setup below.
Any suggestions? Even underneath? At the moment it lives under the table inside, is a pain, and doesn't do much to the floor.
Thank you!

Personally I wouldn't add any more weight to the drawbar, even if you could. If you can't find a way to secure it inside (say under a bed), then perhaps a carry frame welded onto the chassis on the back of the van and a wheel cover over it. It doesn't really like like you would have enough clearance for an under-van cradle and they are a real pain when you need to get them out.

I have my spare under the bed, the dish of the wheel can also house other items.

I had the same issue where to put the spare as well. I don't like spares on the back or front so I carried it in the tow vehicle, but as we are going to nationals and will be away for a month I had more use for the space in the vehicle than to carry a spare. I have put a spare under the Olympic we have, but the caravan we are taking away is too low. I decided on the draw bar as I would never carry any extra weight hanging of the back. Not much room left on the draw bar but I mounted it on an angle which helped it missed everything. After the trip the spare tyre mount can be removed. 20210324_155849 by

Hi Jdazzle, I'm coming to the party late, but in terms of being sympathetic to the era, vintage caravans didn't generally have a spare tyre holder - apart from the fact that it just seems to have not been something people generally did back then, I think it may also have been because the A-frame on the van was often so short there wasn't room for one. Some people have added a spare tyre holder 'after market', a bit like Warrenk's holder. However, as Roehm has suggested you probably need to think about the extra weight on your drawbar. You don't want to put excessive strain on it, You see quite a few modern vans with tool boxes and all sorts of things on the drawbar, and I understand that sometimes the drawbars end up breaking as a result. In addition you need to be careful not to exceed the maximum ball weight of the van on your car. A spare tyre on the drawbar could add significantly to that. We have always carried our spare tyre for the van in the boot, except for a period when the wheels on the van were the same size and stud pattern as the ones on the car and we didn't need to carry a separate spare wheel for the van. That was bliss!! Don Ricardo
