Howdy All......Only new at this. I have just resurrected my "Sports Minor" from the back shed. I originally grabbed this in the mid 70's. My brother in-law was taking it to the local tip. He said it was used by his dad and estimated it to be over 50 years old. It was covered in what looked like some type of Masonite and when I got her she had 22" prefect wheels. The covering was rotting away so I moved it into a neighbours shed and started to restore it. Being in my 20's I wasn't overly interested in doing an 'original restoration' I just wanted to get it going again. I added 13" Holden rims and coated it in Colorbond. The back door was from and old mainframe computer that was being replaced at the CBA bank where I worked. Eventually I got it going and spent many good times with it. My mates would look in awe when they were setting up their tents and I rolled up with my double bed on wheels. One trip of note was towing it behind my then Mazda 323 bubble and using the annexe with my wife and two kids. I moved from Melbourne to near Violet Town and the 'Sports Minor' came with us in 2001. She has been in an open shed since. I got her out last week and the Colorbond on the top had largely gone back to bare aluminium. A quick paint job and new tyres and it is ready to roll again. The current rego papers say she was born in year 1900. I am not sure about that. I am hoping to get a lot more use out of her during my retirement. I as so happy to find stories about other "Sports Minors" on this noticeboard.......ENJOY Attachments:

Hi staffy, I have a Sportsman Teardrop and have towed it all over Aus in the last 30 years. The rego would read 1900 because when it was registered at some stage in its life the rego people would not have known when it was built so the generic 1900 was used. Your Sports Minor was built by Safetee Trailing units in Mentone in Victoria and would have been built in the early 1950's. If you have a look at the Down History Lane section of the forum there is some history there on Safetee's Sports Minors.
Cheers, Leigh.

Great story Staffy, I'd wonder where you'd get tyres these days for the old prefect wheels. The Holden wheels will convince plenty it's a 60's jobby.
