Hi, I have 2 caravans I'm looking to identify & date if anyone can help. I'm pretty sure the Fiberglass is a Franklin Futura, but I'm not sure about the date - the tow bar says 765 with possibly an B, S, g or e afterwards, I've attached photos of the van and the draw bar. The other I know is a Franklin, but I have no idea as to it's type or age, I'm not sure if there is a number on the draw bar, I'll have to look tomorrow.

Hi Itsme, Welcome to the forum, and thanks for telling us about your vans. The fibreglass van is one of the Franklin Futura caravans, but may have been sold as a Skyline or as a South Australian Clipper. There is more info about these vans here. I read the serial number as ‘765B’, which is a Franklin serial number. That doesn’t necessarily tell us for certain that your van was sold as a Franklin because the Skyline models also used a Franklin chassis with a Franklin serial number, just to confuse us. We’re not possible whether the Clipper version also had a Franklin chassis and serial number or not, but I think there’s a good chance. The ‘B’ in the serial number indicates that your van was probably built as early as 1962, and is the earliest serial number we’ve seen for a Futura on the forum. You’ll see some discussion about serial numbers lower down on the thread I gave you this link for. Hughdeany has told you about the aluminium Franklin. If you can tell us the serial number of that van, we can tell you the specific build year for that one. Hope all that helps? Don Ricardo

Hi Itsme,
Thanks for showing us the serial number for the Premier. If you look carefully (very carefully!) you'll see a '-' between the '0' and '6', so the serial number in this case is '130-6'.
The '6' to the right of the '-' indicates the year - 1966. The '130' tells us that the van was the 130th built by Franklin in that year, so probably fairly early in the year.
Hope that helps?
Don Ricardo
