Hello there, I am new here! We have a new project which we are very excited about. We purchased a vintage caravan which we are initially going to give a spruce up to get up and running as an extra space and then to take on a few short trips. Eventually we look at removing walls so we can properly restore but for now she seems watertight and is comfortable to tow to get us started. We were told the van could be a Coronet but there are no stickers or markings to confirm. I’ve trawled the internet but I’m still not confident. We also are unsure of the year. Any comments/thoughts/advice welcome! Thank you! app.photobucket.com/u/ElzbethS/a/1b7d4564-2424-4142-b594-7895eb6ba38f

Hi and welcome elzbeth, Your van is a Franklin Premier with a wooden frame,14.6x7. It’s mid sixties that would have been silver aluminium when new but has been painted white at some stage. Hope this helps Cheers hughdeany

Hughdeany, thank you soooo much! There you go! We clearly had no idea?! This information has now lead us to discover that it is a 1966 model based on the chassis number (thanks again to this forum!). It’s amazing how good it feels to know the vans origins! Thanks again!

I know its a Modern postimg.cc/gallery/t4hfrj8Any help is appreciated! Thank you Hi Onlocation, Welcome to the forum, and thanks for telling us about your Modern van. We don’t know a whole lot about Modern’s history or the sequence of its models. However, if you check the Down History Lane (DHL) page for Modern caravans that Shesgotthelook pointed you to and here, you’ll see some info about Modern. The first post in that link shows a van the same model as yours. As you’ll see, when the information was first posted about that caravan we were told it was thought to have been built in 1958. Based on what we now know, though, and based on the cladding and design, it was built in the second half of the 60’s, maybe as late as 1968. The person who owns the van on the DHL Modern page is still on the forum, and goes by the name of Noblesgarage. He’s currently working with a bunch of people to create a caravan museum in Wagin, WA, and would no doubt be happy to talk to you and compare notes. Hope that helps, Don Ricardo
