Hi all,
Have just bought myself a circa 1960 Fleetwind in Sydney and plan on rebuilding from ground up over the next twelve months or so. If I can work out how to post photos I will put a few up. It is a bit of a mess but a lot of character and promise.
It has what I understand to be Holden rims of the time and just had them sandblasted and powdercoated. Took them to my tyre dealer who asked what sort of tyres are specified for the van which I don't have a clue. He says we can take a guess but didn't sound like that was his preferred option. The ones that came off were both different so nothing to rely on there. I cannot find any plates on the van to help.
So.… first question I have for those in the know is what tyres should be on this old thing? Or should I put it on a weighbridge once the project is finished and work it out then? Noting that what I do with it will likely be a different weight to the original.
Would appreciate if anyone can assist.
Cheers, Mick.

Welcome to the forum Mick. Don't see too many of the Fleetwind vans, so good luck working on it. A great time to get to work on it during the coronavirus isolation too. Have you checked here vintagecaravans.proboards.com/board/29/post-photos-on-forum about posting pics? Regarding tyres. You don't say what size van you've got, but regardless, if you know the total weight of the van, you should buy tyres rated to that capacity. A good tyre dealer should be able to give you advice on that. Personally, I prefer a light truck tyre.

Hello & welcome Mick. You need to use a photo hosting site such as Flikr or Postimage, very easy once you get the hang of it. Regarding tyres, I have put light truck tyres on all of my vans except for the littlest ones. They really are the only way to go. Cheers, SGTL
