Looking to replace the water tank in The Don. Does anyone have one lying about in usable condition? Or can you recommend a substitute that fits in the space? 0407873997 Thanks fellow VC’s

You will probably have difficulty finding such a tank. Might be best to have a new tank made in gal or stainless and utilise the existing tap. I had the same problem with a previous van I had and ended up having one manufactured.

Hi SGTL, what are the dimensions of your missing Propert water tank?

Hi Winterwood! I actually have no idea as it was long gone. Might have to ask a Propert owner. Cheers SGTL

I've got an old VV copper tank in Drouin that may be restorable. For sale or swap Cheers, Arthur

I've kept the original tank so that it can be used again, should we ever need another new tank. I'm almost 100% certain that the tanks used in the various Don models were identical. You're welcome to borrow the old tank so that you can get a new one made for your van, if that would be helpful. It's had the fittings taken off it - the tap, filler and cap, and holding brackets were all fitted to our new tank. However, I can show you what they look like, and you can take measurements, etc. Let me know if that would assist you. Don Ricardo

Thank you don. I actually have the original tank too but it’s a little past being restored. I suppose originals are most likely all a little worse for wear. Still, hopeful 🍀

Hi KCK,
I think you’re probably right that most original Don tanks migh be unusable by now.`
We had both our tanks replaced by a metal work place called Creeks Metal Industries, based in Box Hill. That was back in the early 1980’s. Unfortunately that won’t be much help to you though, because when I checked their current details the company was de-registered in 2014 and has apparently closed up shop.
However, Creeks listed themselves as producing ‘fabricated metal & hardware’, so I think you should be looking for a similar outfit.
There are a couple of other forum members who have had their Don tanks replaced. Hopefully one of them in Victoria may be able to tell you who made the new ones. Our tanks were made out of galvanized tin (as were the originals), but someone had a new tank made out of stainless steel which looked great.
