Hi gurus
Just back from a successful show for the 10 Days in The Island Festival with 6 VV's in Tassie, pics to come. We want to finally return an Ali van to someone who loaned it to us a few years ago and need to clean it up a bit.
A VV van nut who stopped and talked to me when I was with my Carapark told me that there was a vinegar kind of mixture that would clean the Ali up a treat and then it could be polished with a special cream. Any ideas what that mixture could be? Or the cream?

Hi melanco, we tried desperately to get to your show, but all the tickets were sold except at Bridport, but that was midweek and 300 kms away! So we are keenly waiting for your pictures of the event! it sounded like alot of fun, what with the eskies on arrival and sitting amongst the Vintage Vans, we were so mad at ourselves! exocet

Hi Mel, I am about to embark on some Ally polishing soon on the franklin (and I am getting a full ally van soon too : , so I would be keen to hear about the vinegar mix! As for magic cream, I have always sworn by Autosol (available from Autobarn or similar). Cheers, Tinnie Hey MR Autosol, how about a little "cash for comments" I could do with some sponsorship from you guys with the amount of aluminium polishing that is ahead of me!!! ;D ;D

I've found whenever polishing aluminium that has a dirty (oxidized?) surface a gently rubbing with steel wool with a grading of 0000 has the effect of removing all the sludge that polish either won't take off or takes ages to do so. After which the usual metal polishes have a brilliant and easier result. test the steel wool and polish combo on an inconspicuous area first to get a feel for it.
