OK all you "glassies" here's one to find out what you REALLY know about fibreglass. If I want to do a fibreglassing fill job using timber as my mould on one side, what do I put onto the timber first so that the glass doesn't stick to it? ? In other words, I am only using the timber to hold the resin in place so that it sets without sinking/sliding. I am sure there is something that is used for that purpose, but cannot think of it. Thanks Ray

Apply a thin coating of margarine or similar on the clingwrap??......... or would that have a detrimental effect on the fibreglass??. Terry.

Just use cling wrap on its own, it doesn't need a release agent.
If it is a large area, get some PVC or Polyethylene film and use either one of them, these also don't need a release agent.
You can also buy from fibreglass suppliers a spray on release agent that dries to a thin film that works, although it does tend to dull the shine if your using gelcoat.
edited to add NEVER ever use silicone polish either as a release agent or to polish the finished product, it is absorbed by the glass and is then impossible to repair or repaint.
Also never allow oil to come in contact with raw glass, or while glassing, they do not mix and while the job may look ok, it will be weak.
fbmad Margarine is an oil based product, see above.

I made two fibreglass mudguards. The mould was apllied with a release agent first so it would not stick to the mould. Not sure where you get it or cost but it's what you use. Mate of mine had it already so I used it (thanks to him), but looks like you might have a simpler solution. Cling wrap would not have worked to make a neat finish for my mudguards and can't see it working neatly for you either - use release agent is my view. Although I'm with Reddo - I may have used the sticky stuff but don't gotta like it.
