I am repainting my VV which has aluminium moulding over joins where ply sheets meet halfway up the side wall the problem is I can't get aluminium moulding off to sand and seal the join as the Phillips head screws are burred and I think sikaflex or construction adhesive was used under the moulding and in screw holes as they seem very fixed. I'm worried I may damage the aluminium strips removing them too. So my query is could I just butyl mastic under them and along the edges once wall panels are sanded? Would this be a sufficient waterproofing solution without sanding painting and re-sealing the seam underneath? I have added a photo of the wall in question showing the mouldings in following post - still trying to get proficient adding photos to posts would appreciate any experienced advice๐๐๐thankyou www.flickr.com/gp/158225079@N08/0u7Rh5

Are you stripping the inside of the van? If so you may be able to see if there is any evidence of water getting in, if they have been glued on so well there is a pretty good chance they are still watertight.
When i did my teardrop, i was lucky enough to source replacements so just removed and replaced my olds ones, so didnt worry about damaging them.
In your situation i would think your solution would be ok,
