Hi I have a 1969 Olympic Debonnaire that is in good nick - but I think the fridge needs replacing. I believe it to be original. IT takes along time to get cool and then it doesn't stay cool enough. It is currently o electric/gas and I think battery version too. Can a normal bar fridge be installed by an electrician. Or, what would I pay for a proper caravan fridge? If anyone has any tips I would love to hear them. I attended the rally Eastern at South West Rocks a couple of years ago and had a ball - meeting everyone and poking my head into lots of doors. I met Rod from Belligen and his with - can't quite recall name, Dottie? hmmm... anyway, Rod my vans is stored in Urunga, not far from you, if you have any tips would love to hear from you too.... you and your wife were so lovely..
thank you lee and spencer (bondi)

You don't need an electrician to install a bar fridge, as long as there is a power point all you do is plug it in! However you may need someone to properly disconnect the gas from your existing fridge. Sometimes taking them out & standing upside down for 24hrs helps but not always. 2nd hand 3 way fridges do come up on ebay/ gumtree etc but you don't really know what you are getting. New ones are expensive. You could always get your serviced though, maybe at a caravan repairers or a fridge mechanics. Good luck!

A bar fridge would be a good replacement, but they are taller than a 3 way fridge which would mean the draw above the fridge and the slide out bench might need to be removed. Another option is a 12 v fridge as they come in sizes comparable to a 3way fridge, but again are not cheap. As said in the previous post remove the fridge and turn it upside down. Is the problem of not cooling happen on gas or 240v or both?
