OK Jailbarjuice, so tell me, if I have Holden standard rims and I want to get small wheels to put on for putting it under cover what could I use - some smallboat trailer wheels? I need to drop the height to get it in my garage under cover and it needs to come down about 3 inches. I thought rather than deflate my tires I might put smaller wheels on for storage under cover and put the normal ones on for travel.

Hi Royce,
A few years ago dad bought a new Quintrex Fishabout boat and the trailer was fitted with those small aluminium rims. Can't remember the size of them but think they are 8 inch or 10 inch or so. Anyway I know they still make them as I've seen them for sale the other day. At the time he had a holden with 13 inch rims ( LJ Torana ) I found that the small aluminium wheels also ran Holden bearings. It was an easy job to fit early holden hubs and LJ Torana rims on the trailer so dad only needed one spare tyre instead of carrying spares for the car and boat.
Soooo...................
Based on that story I'd say you could fit the smaller boat trailer rims and they would give you the clearance you need.
Terry.

I have that problem that to get the rims of my Murrumba star i have to jack under the spings as far as i can the put the car stand under the back then drop the jack then i still have prob getting it off. I think a hi jack would be good for this but the cost holds me back.

Hey Royce, Perfect solution! Just put some 3" lowering blocks under the TD, it'll fit into the shed and look veeery cool. Seriously, I have seen the 10" aluminium boat wheels FBmad spoke of advertised on ebuoy in a 5 stud holden pattern. If you can get some that will B easy, simple bolt on bolt off. Cheers, Tinnie

Hi JBJ After the "tour" and the bad experience i and Cobber had with removing a blown and shredded 16" X 600 tyre from under the "matilda" . i went straight around to the wreckers and bought 3 - 15" x 7" daihatsu rocky wheels. probably could have found something narrower from a ford but i liked the spoked wheel look of the rocky rims.
End result is a rim that accepts a wide range of readily available tyres. However ... because of the width i have found that i still have to unscrew the 7 ot 8 stainless woodscrews and remove the timber spat to get the wheel off. a small legacy that i am prepared to live with and bugger all inconvenience compared with having to do the 2 jack shuffle to get the wheel 16" wheel out . 1 to jack the van as high as we could and one to jack the axle down as far as we could.
Best advice i have is: If its a pain in the bum to do a wheel change at home on a flat even surface within arms reach of the right tools and the fridge . Its gunna be a real pisser when that puncrure happens in the middle of nowhere.. on your own... in 40 degree heat... with the wrong tools. Dont tempt fate.. fix it.

Looks like the aluminium 5 stud boat rims are the go. Thanks for all the help.
Reddo, if you make a mistake twice, you weren't awake the first time.
