Hi cardygeorge. It would be a relatively easy matter for newer members to find their photos and re-submit that, but there are many photos from older members who have downloaded hundreds or even thousands of pics. An impossible task for all the reasons that geoff&jude mentioned earlier. Sadly, I suspect that a lot of information will be lost on all forums relying on P/Bucket throughout the world, not just our little forum here in Oz. Maybe Mr Trump could tweet an opinion about this, instead of bleating about non-events!!! Or does he have shares in this site and needs the extra cash to pay his bribe monies? Tell me about it! I was scrolling though the wheel thread to replace my images and all of Cobbers images are gone. And that's just one thread. I wouldn't blame him for not bothering to relink everything. All we can really do is guide the new people to another service, and hopefully some of us can spend the time to restore the important parts of what we had. My main motivation is not wasting the time I've already invested. I'm just lucky I'm one of the newer members. Don, I'm all ears.......

My tech savvy children say to use Imgur (so?) & there is no way that it would ever become a paid for service? Unfortunately, that doesn't solve the problem of the thousands of photos on here already. Don R I appreciate your positivity but you must be having a meltdown with all your historical research?! This forum has over 10 years of info photos that are now basically lost. I can't do anything about my photos at the moment & am not sure I have energy or time to do it when I can. 😔

Almost scared to ask what that could be, but it appears we may still be able to watch Clementine's restoration

Glad my images are on Flickr- I have a paid account, costs me about $40 every 2 years, I do have a few on Photobucket for another forum but not many of any great importance $399.99 per annum is totally gauging and a ludicrous business plan, very few individuals are gonna pay it, they'll just leave in droves.
Just checked my last communication from Flickr - Pro Account going up to US $49.99 a year (not until 2018 for me) - unlimited space, no adds and no limits on sharing plus some other goodies. Even at $50 odd AU dollars, I still think Flickr will be good value for me. And looking at the number of PRO v free accounts lots of people agree. I don't know in what universe Photobucket think they'll get the amount they want.

Don R I appreciate your positivity but you must be having a meltdown with all your historical research?! Hi SGTL and all, No meltdown from my end. I tend to look at problems as a challenge! Just one of my personality flaws I'm afraid. I've been experimenting with a reasonable amount of success. It will take a while, and I will be concentrating on DHL for the moment, but hopefully people can be patient. The advice regarding Imgur is very helpful. Whatever happens, we do need a viable alternative to Photobucket, and we do need to work out a reliable method of archiving the forum. The administrators have been discussing that, but anyone who has experience in these areas or has ideas to contribute are very welcome to chip in. Don Ricardo

I haven't been affected yet. $400 is better spent on a wall of my van. Good on you guys and gals for researching.

Might pay to sticky this in the History thread until you can update/resolve the image situation For users who are affected by this, it is important to note that the images are not gone. They are still hosted on Photobucket, and you can actually load them right then and there by right-clicking on them and selecting “open image in new tab” or “open link in new tab” depending on the web browser that you are using. This opens the Photobucket website where the original image is displayed.
I tried that out with SeeShells avatar pic - it takes a few seconds to load but at least visitors can see the pic. Reference

here's another site I have found - terms of Service allow linking and its free PostImages Website
This is quite easy to use - don't even need a user account - although Id be inclined to start one if using all the time

My first try. Attachment DeletedI'll not be mucking around redoing all my photos. If someone wants info on what I've done on the Olympic I'll replace the relevant photos. It is just too much otherwise. Photobucket can kiss my a#$@.

Sad times indeed....Lady Madonna's Travels photos have also gone. When I got the emails from Photobucket I, like others assumed straightaway a scam. It's called progress apparently. Makes one wonder if we'll ever see photos from the likes of the late Trevor Roberts or Jailbar😢 (or dare I mention what's his name from Barnsley)

Hey Daggsey, nice to see that you are still around. Are you still doing anything on the VV front? When are you coming back to visit us? Have you heard from Kingy as he seem to have dropped off the radar? Koala

Hi Koala, Yep, I'm still lurking😎 on the vv site. Kingy and Mez now in Maryborough (Qld)....he's on Bookface if you want to catch up with him. On the Photobucket front, I just checked my account...I have only used .2gb of my 2.2gb FREE allowance. The issue is that PB will not allow 3rd party sharing from this plan or the Plus 50 or Plus 100, only from the Plus 500 for $399.99 per year.👎 Most people are never going to reach 500gbs of 3rd party sharing.... I doubt if that nameless person from Barnsley would even reach that. The size of the plan reflects the number of gigglebits that you use.

Great to hear from you Daggsey. I am sure that smarter people than me are on the job trying to sort the Photobucket issue. I guess that it comes down to whether you want this forum to be free or not. If the forum is to continue as a viable VV research tool then we need a secure location to store members contributions and not be at risk of being held to ransom as we now are. It would be a shame if all the current research data was lost. An option is Facebook but Facebook is not really a research tool where data can readily be stored and accessed. Facebook is good for a chat and quickly reaches all members but no good for research.......it would be great if Facebook and a forum such as this could work together somehow. Some forums allow free access to selected areas but restrict access to others unless a small annual fee is paid. As much as it is great to have a free forum we may now be at the point now where someone i.e. members need to pay.
As I said, someone smarter than me will sort it out.
Koala

Hello Koala, I don't want to sound rude but not all members are on Facebook, although these days I realise I am in the minority. Surely there is another non FB member or two out there. I have learned so much from theses boards ( I am very new to vv) and loved all the photographic updates so many talented members have supplied to the point I feel like a thief. With this in mind I would be happy to pay a membership to safeguard this wonderful forum. Thank you to all Chelley

I completely agree with you Ken, Facebook is definitely not the place for research, history, help etc. it's information is fleeting & to go back & find an individual post, even 1 day after it has been posted can be difficult, let alone years down the track! Photobucket must somehow be held accountable for what they have singlehandedly destroyed. Forums hosting their own images won't bring the last 10 years photos back, nor will everyone finding a different image server solve the problem. I am surprised there isn't more of a public outcry, I have seen one article accusing them of blackmail but that is all . 😒
