Who put the electrical power point in the stove recess, I am not an electrician but I think you will find that will not pass inspection. Greg

Hey Groovy,I have no idea who put in the power point it was a second hand van(probably a previous owner) I dont see any issue as there are no wires running to the rear of it. I am unsure of any current inspection you are suggesting that my van needs but I will be happy for you to tell me the name of it.Cheers Dave

There are two inspection safety certicates required, one is an electrical safety inspection and the other is a gas safety compliance inspection.
If you have a look at any new van, they will have an inspection certificate glued somewhere, used to be inside a wardrobe door, stating the date and the inspectors name and certification number. This is a requirement for connecting to 240V grid power and comes under the various state electrical authorities. Also, under OH&S or Workcover regs, a van park is supposed to checked your lead for an inspection tag before allowing you to plug into their power system.
I do not know the name of the inspection, but any licensed sparky with a contractors license can perform it as far as I am aware. Whether it is required for rego or not, I would have it done for my own peace of mind as 240V is to dangerous to muck around with.
With the gas system, any gas certified plumber can do the safety inspection and issue the revelant certicate.
The whole idea of lining a stove enclosure with metal is to prevent surrounding materials catching fire and to assist in containing it should a fire happen. Having a hole in the metal surround covered by combustible plastic is a no no, whether there are wires running to it or not.
With gas bottles, no filling station is supposed to refill an out of date gas bottle, if caught filling an out of date bottle, they can lose their license to refill.

If I can make a comment on regulations relating to gas & electrics, the real issue is that all states have regulations pertaining to these matters. The fact that nobody checks their validity is irrelevant they are there for good & obvious reasons & may only become apparent after an unfortunate event.

wildmanaus Any and everytime the electrical or gas sytem in your van is altered in any way, it needs to be re inspected, generally an electrical contractor whould noterise the existing certifcate unless it was a major job.
I am not sure but believe that in Queensland either one or the other, maybe both are rquired for transfer of rego.
