Hi all, Quessie for you.
I am getting the van wired up for 240 volt as well as 12, but what I need to know is can I put normal 240 lights in the van and outside the van? I know that I have to have special switches and plugs etc but does this extend to the actual light fitting? Thanks Scoot

Hi Scoot.
Make sure you buy fittings that are designed for external use ( weatherproof) on the outside of your van. Shop at the van sales places and get fittings with 12v and 240v globes in the one fitting.
Wiring should be multi stranded as per Australian standards for caravan installations. . Dont use the older style single strand house wiring cable. vibrations etc causes the wire to break.
Use rubber grommets or plastic bushes where the wiring passes through into the hole in the fitting otherwise vibration will eventually cause the tin on the fitting base to cut through the cable insulation.
Hope this helps Your van looks good mate. Keep at it. Reddo

Hi Scoot, Having been a permament firefighter in Melbourne for 30 years I have seen all sorts of fires and incidents so don't forget to fit a safety switch. This could save you and your family from electrocution and your van from beining destroyed by fire, while on the saftey side of things dont forget a suitable fire extguisher about 1.5 kg and a large fire blanket for the van, this little bit of advise could be for all vintage vanners, also dont forget your tow vehicles and your garage / workshops for fire extguisher. A good idea for your garage /workshop is a suitable length of garden hose all ways connected to the tap, that will reach around the garage / workshop area , maybe this advise could also aply to the Beverly Vintage Van Museum ??
