Hi, We have a 55 Ford Victoria and want to get an approved tow bar made and fitted so we can tow our old girl to places like Coledale etc.
We have contacted quite a few firms in Sydney and have not had any success yet. Can anyone help with info re the regulations and any places that may be interested in this job.
We are looking for a tow bar with a towing capacity of about 1600 to 2000kg.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks Geoff & Jude

Hi Geoff & Jude, I am collecting a newly fabricated tow bar tongue for my EH in Nambour , QLD, tomorrow I am taking my '57 T-Bird there for a quote to have a towbar made for it. I guess it would be similiar to your Victoria. I'll let you know how I get on.I'm sure engineering places have to meet certain requirements here in Qld to be able to make and sell t-bars.I'll check it out. Cheers, Clyde.

G'DAY GEOFF & JUDE , How you going ? I just missed out on seeing the Viccy a couple of months ago at Munmorah . I got there lunch time saturday but you had been and gone , i'll get to check it out at Coledale . With your tow bar , i had one tailor made a few years ago at a 4x4 towbar/bullbar place for my modified FJ Holden ute . It was done very professionally by a place down your way at Sth Hurstville , Bellevue street i think ? There is a small industrial area there , so should'nt be to hard to find ! GOOD LUCK ! REGARDS MAURIE. p.s How close are you guys to Coledale ! It must take a whole 26 minutes to get there ! ;D p.p.s Are you keen on the spit roast idea for the saturday night ? ;D ;DCHEERS BIGEARS ;D ;D

Hi Sutcac & mrjj55, Thanks for the info, the South Hurstville one sounds good being so close. Shame we couldn't stay on the Munmorah weekend, sick dog, but it was good to put some faces to the names that appear on the website. Can't wait for Coledale - we stopped in & had a look last Sunday - will leave a message on the Coledale thread re spit - getting off track here Jude

Hi All, thanks for all your input - this is what makes this site so valuable - Geoff claims I am addicted - just cause I check it at least twice a day to keep up with all that's happening!!! We called the guy at South Hurstville this morning, but alas no go - he now only fits standard stuff. We spoke to the RTA and we have to meet certain specs. Col, if you were to make one in VIC would it meet NSW standards? Oh well the hunt continues - we WILL get there. Thanks again for all the help and any more ideas will be greatly appreciated Jude

Towbars in Qld don't need to be engineered unless they are attached to a vehicle manufactured after July 1st 1988. I would have thought that all states would be similar - just like ADR's. In reality, when you think about it, most people in pre 1988 cars just assume that the towbar already fitted to their car is okay. Who knows if a bar fitted to an older car is new or old? The main point is that the owner is satisfied that the bar will meet the function for which it's required. just my thoughts on the subject.. earlee.

Hi G & J Just head around to your local steel fabrication place. e.g: just about any boilermaker/welder who has a registered business. Get em to measure up your Vicky and leave them to make it for you. Shouldnt be an issue if the car was built pre '88. Providing the welding is done to a decent standard and there is adequate points of attachment to the car then no one will know wether the bar has been there for 20 minutes or 20 years.
I done this when i had the FJ panelvan. I had seen a few 'coathangers" that had been fitted to old FJs and i got my main man to come up with something a bit more substanial than the original article put out by Nasco.
cheers Reddo

Hi all , thanks to Earlee,Reddo & Tickos for all the valuable input. We have since heard from a guy we sourced a lot of parts from for the resto - Cusso Bill- some of you may have heard of him and he has a tow bar that could be suitable if Geoff does some of that guy type engineering & welding stuff - leave me to the girl stuff, like buying lots of goodies to fill the van up!!!! Tickos thanks - we will give the guy you mentioned a ring and may still go with that idea if it sounds better. Again thanks to all who have helped and will keep you posted on how it all turns out Jude

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Ahso comrade Col No more of that crap not publically anyway Shanghai is amazing the technology is unbelievable flight is 13 hours over and 13 hours back in 4 days very hospitable and efficient industry base the nearest price I can buy auto coffee machine foe is $5000.00 I can buy the same for $ in China $1300.00 but if you can loan me around $430.000 we can have a container full wot you fink Corin we do good business together you becum my strategy partner after all that the style of machines we are interested in are made under an Italian name in the united states using a new technology base with seperate boilers which gives a more even temperature for each outlet creates creamier coffee and extracts the full flavour of the beans
