JB Most of that information on the NRMA link is taken from VSB-1, which applies nationally. The NRMA have made it a little more readable. It was more than just a change of rules in 1990, there were a lot of new regulations made at that time that didn’t exist before that. One example.. Did you know that prior to 1990 there was no requirement to fit tyres that could actually carry the weight of a caravan? One manufacturer consistently fitted two tyres with a load carrying capacity of 340 Kg each on vans with TARE weights from 800 to 1000 kg’s. The changes and additions in 1990 were long overdue. The VSB-1 is from The Department of Regional Services and downloadable at: www.dotars.gov.au/roads/publications/pdf/roads_vsb_01.pdf

Hi Jailbarjuice, Give me a yell as I may be able to help you with your inquiry on rubber suspended axles. I will need to know a few details from you and if you'd like to get in touch with 'cobber', he was at my place today and he has seen that kind of axle or two, three! Cheers. Martin.
