Earlie, If you decide to update I will take the brakes and wheels. I am using 40 ford brakes on my next hot rod project, Cheers, Santa28a.

This is all that I have – rims, drums and backing plates. The brake shoes have been removed at some earlier stage, there must have been some to hook up the cable brakes which were there before. Even the backing plates are rusted through. Is there any other hub/drum which will fit the ford stub axle? I like the idea of the 16” wheels for originality. Hey Santa – why don’t you do me a favour and make me an offer for the whole van and wheels that I can’t refuse? It’s a good way to get a classic 40’s van and hubs!

I finally found a hubcap to fit the rims. ;D ;D I tried all types of old Ford caps but they wouldn’t fit – but this Chevrolet one is perfect. Can anyone identify it for me? I really need 2 good ones as this one is a bit sad..

thanks Col, I am still a bit confused ... whether the rims are ford or chev. ?? I tried a few different types of early ford hubcaps but they wouldn't fit, whereas the chevvy one does fit, or are some of them interchangeable depending on the lugs? earlee. ;D

The hubcap is the same as a set of hubcaps that came with one of my 3 x 1937 Chev 1/2 ton trucks I bought a while back and fits the Chev 16 inch rims. Your rim does look sort of similar to the '37 Chev however '37 Chev has six stud pattern and yours is five stud. The brake drum/backing plate isn't Chev either (at least 1937 Chev anyway). Reddo's 20 year teardrop pics shows the 17 inch Chev wires with the same stud pattern as my 1937 light truck rims although the wires came from the earlier "34 to 36' Chev Master cars.
Terry.

Col, thanks for the info and interesting pics. ;D You are like a walking encyclopaedia ! I will have to keep my eyes open at the next swap meet for various types of hubcaps - preferably with some script Yes it does seem that my rims were manufactured as trailer rims. The next thing to get will be suitable skinny 16' tyres. ;D Looks like you don't need those 2 spare wheels on the back of your van - wonder what freight would be ? regards earlee.

Hey earleewatzit
Get common /garden variety size 16" tyres. 650 s are fairly common. you dont wanna get stuck with 600s there as rare as . I found out the hard way on the east coast tour.
better still Go grab 3 later model 15' rims off a suzuki, jeep, f100 . i am using daihatsu rocky 15s on matilda. also makes them easier to get out from under the van wheel arches if and when ya get a puncture. They still look Ok as they are almost the same hieght as the 16s

"in for maintenance' eh... Hmmm now if ya had built it properly in the first place. Yep too right i'm frisky. Hows about ya send me ya credit card details and i will get Neway to carve up my rims. shouldnt be anymore than a hot rodders weekly wage Still pushing ahead with the 17s but will have 2 x 14" rims with high profile tyres on them just in case the spokes get the wobbles up. Koala ken in canberra PMd me a while back , he has about 6 - 17" chev " bottle top"rims .. give aways. Gunna stick that new tyre i am getting off you on the TD and use one of the older tyres as a spare on one of kens rims. Just sent him an email and trying to hook up with him over easter or sometime next week. reddonlyspokeswilldo
